World War 1

Post by Ibanez »

Today is the 98th Anniversary of the War to end all Wars. On late June 1914, the major world powers were mobilizing in response to the assassination of Austrian Archduke Ferdinand.
Hostilities began with the execution of Germany's Schlieffen Plan. The War used airplanes and wireless technology for the first time. On 28 July, the conflict opened with the Austro-Hungarian invasion of Serbia followed by the German invasion of Belgium, Luxembourg and France; and a Russian attack against Germany.

Me thinks you missed the point of the statement.

I've interviewed many WW2 vets who share that feeling. War is wasteful. Many vets would agree with me. Sometimes it is necessary and it is always unpleasant but it a waste of youth, resources, emotions, etc…

I think the war in Grenada was not a waste. Those evil bastards had it coming to them. Probably the most savage, brutal regime ever. They had to be stopped at any cost.

Watch out Trinidad and Tobago. You're next.

If nuclear weapons had been around in 1914 there wouldn't have been a WWI or WWII.

That is way cool. My grandmother was born right after her father got out of the Army. He was stationed at Fort Moultire on Sullivan's Island, SC. He stayed after the war and started his family.

She also says that their engine block heaters were a lump of coal place under the car engine....we have it pretty easy now....

I love to listen to her stories of the "old days". She also remembers it snowing on the 4th of July (in SW North Dakota)......wow!

If you haven't already videotape her talking about the "old days". My brother did that with my grandparents before they passed. He asked questions about getting electricity, inside plumbing, what they did on dates, farming with horses, first cars/radios/tv, etc. I'm glad he did it.

there is so much we can learn from studying the past. I want to reach military studies. Right now I am helping the state of SC preserve an area that I supposedly the list fort of Francis Marion. just because i believe it to be a waste doesn't mean that we shouldn't study it's lessons.
