Of course he has every right to express his beliefs. Just like any free thinking person such as myself has every right to ridicule those beliefs.
I could give a frogs fat ass whether or not he chooses to have his restaurants open on Sundays. I do however take exception to his support of denying people their constitutional rights which his company has actively done.

I don't agree at all with Chick-Fil-A's stance, but if we had one here, I would be there at least twice a week. They make a damn fine chicken sandwich. They keep showing Popeye's commercials here too, closet one I have seen is just outside of Portland. Their food look's delicious as well.

Mayors of these cities are free to make these statements, just as the CEO is free to make his.
That being said, Chick-fil-A has the right to open a restaurant any where that the zoning is appropriate (and any other similar operation would be allowed to open).
If Chick-fil=A does not reflect the area's values, it will quickly go out of business.

Re: **** you Rahm Emanuel
One of the more liberal columnists in the Chicago Tribune summed this whole thing up pretty well ...
Alderman lays an egg in opposing Chick-fil-A

...
Those who are cheering on these pols ought to imagine the jackboot on the other foot – reactionary public officials in some backwater town denying an entrepreneur the right to operate an ordinary business simply because he’s an open supporter of Obamacare, abortion rights or even marriage equality.
Such a hypothetical should make it easy to see how it plainly offends the spirit of the Constitution – and sets a horrible precedent – for public officials at any level to punish otherwise legal forms of speech with arbitrary exercises of government power.

And I don't think Chick-fil-A would last long there. That's an extremely diverse neighborhood just west of DePaul University.

A good look at what was actually said and how it is being reported:

If you live where you don't have Chick-Fil-A, here is an interesting video from Tim Hawkins:Americans need to understand what is going on in this debate. No one is being discriminated against at Chick-fil-a, despite false reports to the contrary. The President of the company, Dan Cathy, simply expressed his point of view on the issue of marriage—a point of view rooted in his Christian beliefs. And now at least two mayors of America’s two leading cities are saying that they will use their power to punish Chick-fil-a for those views. This is a moral outrage and a violation of the first Amendment to the Constitution. Every American—no matter what your view of gay marriage—should stand against this kind of tyranny.
