It's cases like these with no chance of false conviction where the death penalty seems justifiable. Of course anyone who would do something like this MUST not understand right from wrong and it wouldn't be faaaaaaaaaaair to put them on death row. :ohno:

And like clockwork, the right is blaming the left as well - Glen Beck and Rush Limpballs. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

As stated earlier, one CCW holder could have significantly reduced the carnage.

What are Colorado's gun laws like?

I'm thinking that guy would have looked like he got in a fight with a wood chipper if he'd pulled that crap around here. The sheriff in our adjacent county encouraged everyone to get a CWP and gun prices have gone crazy.

And seriously - how could a CCR (or a theatre full of CCR) have stopped this?

He set off tear gas.
He had night vision googles.
He was wearing bullet proof armor
He had an assault rifle

someone else shooting is as likely to have killed more people on accident than to have gotten the shooter

It's going to be political. Get over it. This will bring the issue of gun laws, crime and punishment, mental health services, security, violence in the media, and bickering over any kind of world view the shooter might have (probably isn't even capable of any kind of coherent thought, much like a lot of people who commit these types of crimes).

No one who lost a loved one in this shooting is going to care that it is political on CS.com.

Sounds like all the more reason to have more people armed defensively. Better chance to stop it.

Yesterday Rush Limbaugh said the Dark Knight rises is pro-Obama propaganda because the villain is named "Bain". Must be his fault.
He just ignores the fact that Bain (the villian) existed before Bain ( the company. )

Explain given the factors above, how armed movie goers would have stopped this? More chance of more deaths than less, given the conditions in the theatre

Nobody knows if it would have killed more people or not.

You've never seen me shoot. Head shots, baby. Unless he had armor on his head, too. Its amazing how a shooter reacts a tad differently when he realizes there's lead flying back his direction.

How are you going to aim at his head, in the dark, with tear gas, and people bumping, jostling you?

Not gonna happen.

And what if another armed citizen sees you with a gun, thinks you are the shooter, and kills YOU??? Just as likely to happen.

Of course all these scenarios are possible, but I would rather have a gun in this situation than lay on the floor and wait for the assassin to walk up and blow out the back of my head.

All possibilities. But, like I said, a shooter getting SHOT AT certainly wouldn't get 40 people.

Let me see. Um, I have a gun, there are 300 other people so this guy isn't focused on me. I maneuver and get a clear shot and put a hole through his nose? Maybe 10 less people get killed and 30 less get injured. Sounds like a plan Stan.

Just to address your four points:
1. I've breathed CS gas on numerous occasions. I could still get a shot off, even with burning eyes and a runny nose. CS is designed to make undetermined people who would give us easily go ahead and disperse.
2. If that guy was looking through NVGs while the screen was on, he would have been at a huge disadvantage over me, with eyes already adapted to the lighting and his screen fairly severely washed out.
3. Bulletproof armor: this was his only real advantage. I'd have to hit his face or whatever vulnerable area he presented.
4. Assault rifle: I don't see it as a huge advantage over a handgun in this situation. :twocents:

Anyway, my point is if say five people drew on this guy, lives would have been saved. The body count would not have increased. The suppressive effect alone would have distracted the fuck out of him until a fatal shot could be delivered by the permit holders.
