OFFICIAL CONCESSION POST

I know, I said "Wait till October", but I'm not going to, on behalf of Phillies fans everywhere, I concede the season.

This team is disappointing - if you want me to use stronger adjectives - disinterested, gutless and fat would be at the top of the list.

Agree with Seahawks on Pierre, Victorino, Polanco & Blanton - especially Shane & Bobblehead - you won't get tons but it'll be addition by subtraction. WTF was up with Shane not playing yesterday? Especially after being pictured out in AC until 3:30am Saturday morning....

I also dump Rollins & Lee in the offseason - doesn't make sense to trade them at the deadline - you'll get more in return starting in November.

I also send Charlie to pasture & make Sandberg the manager after the season. If they want to keep Charlie with the organization with some meaningless title then fine, but he's done as the skipper.

E-A-G-L-E-S
You DO know that this means that the Fightins will find a way to win the division now right?

Dammit...just when I was beginning to think the rest of us had a chance.

Gutless and fat.

Didn't catch that the first time I read Bill's post. Ha. Good one. I think.

I was checking to see how bad they lost last night and I see they didn't play.

Has there always been a two-day layoff after the All-Star game?

For as long as I can remember, there were days off the day before, of, and after the AS Game. Now it has stretched to 4 days. This often screws up the starting pitchers who like to pitch every 5th or 6th day.

Well, Vanimal got a win last night, but the bullpen almost blew it. Phillies should never let Brian Sanches pitch again. :ohno:

All-Star break used to be three days - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Not sure when they added Thursday, probably the result of the last collective bargaining agreement.

Is it possible to do a 2 man bullpen? If the SP can go 6 IP, then bring the bastard in for one and paps in for the final 2. Idk what else to do at this point. :(

They either get 7 innings (or more) from the starter, or they grit their teeth and take their chances in the 7th inning. If the starter only goes 6 innings the Phils need at least 3 reliable relievers. The BP has been a huge problem all year.

Hamels goes 8 in 5-1 win over Rockies. Bastardo gets 3 outs on 7 strikes. A rare series win! Howard, however, continues to suck...

Howard is not ready. I think they bought him up out of desperation. They have to hope that he rounds into form and that other teams fear/respect him even as he continues to struggle. If the other guys in the line up see better ptiches then even a bad Howard can help.

To ease the big fella back in, I would hit Howard 5th with Ruiz in the 4th spot. Therefore, he doesn't have so much pressure on him. :thumb:

Through Sunday's start and including one inning of All-Star game, he's at 106 innings pitched. The Nats' stated cap for him is 160 innings.

If the NL East race tightens up, I think the Nats will be "flexible on the upside" with that number. 8-)

They better hope the ligaments in his arm are also flexible on the upside.

Nope. I will take a wager that he doesn't go more than one game past 160.

BTW, I'm glad everyone (except bk) is on board with talking about the Nats and forgetting the Phils. :thumb:

Braves sweeping the Mets and Nats getting 2 of 3 (so far) from the Marlins is starting to make this a two team race.

And, in that case, I'm for the Braves! Washington DC is evil and doesn't deserve a winner in any sport.

Nats are going to run away with the East. They have the best NL East record in conference, and have played the least amount of games at home in the majors. And Drew Storen is back this week, and Werth next week.

Wish I could agree. This will come down to the wire. Mets coming in for a three game set starting tonight, then a huge four game set with the Braves over the weekend. Lannan getting his first start of the year in the second game of Saturday's DH. We should know a lot more about the NL East by Sunday.
