Isiah Crowell joins Alabama St

Post by dal4018 »

Saw this on ESPN yesterday he was a hot shot prep RB that was snatched up by Georgia and because of team violations they removed him from the squad and Alabama St picked him up.

Felonies are permanent.

I'm confused with what you are trying to get at.

If he's convicted he's facing 15 years in prison....

Where he is playing ball should be the last thing on anyone mind.

He'll plead down to misdemeanors and do probation and community service I almost guarantee.

No way he spends anywhere near 15 years in prison.

Yeah I'm surprised the Hornets even allowed him on the team...although....if he does "beat the charges", it would be a high-risk, high reward scenario.

I remember Hampton taking a chance on Marcus Dixon who was accused of sexual assault while in high school. He was a top flight prep football player as well.

I think it speaks volumes about a program that will sign a kid with the pending charges he has. Win at all costs has proven to be the wrong move time and time again.

Marcus Dixon's situation was dramatically different. Crowell not only faces weapons charges, he was previously suspended for failing a drug test.

Agreed. The story of Crowell is much more like the story of Peter Rose on JMU's roster. Signed with Va Tech, then released of his scholarship for selling weed in a school zone, then signed by JMU, subsequently charged with felony assault charges (though I believe acquitted in the end) and sat out last year. But the good news is he's back on the roster at JMU this year and has been given a 3rd opportunity to improve his judgement. A standard of behavior I'm sure JMU finds acceptable for all of it's incoming and existing students.

His first name is spelled Isaiah. Whether or not he should be playing for Alabama State, this will increase the FCS profile nationally. Some Georgia fans will also continue to follow him and root for him.

seeing as we can't take chances on questionable players due to our APR issues I wouldn't have to post that.

dal, quick question.

Education opportunities aside, how many times should a college athlete get?

That's a bullshit statement. How many people in this thread have said anything like that? I've even heard Alabama State people say they don't want that kid.
