What would you think of keeping football action going in the off-season by having College Arena Football???

Not sure this would be the right time, economically, to launch that...

Dumb idea. New stadiums would have to be built. Chance for injury. How would scholarships work? Title IX. Not very entertaining. So on.

I don't see why the Big East hasn't gotten in on hockey... almost all of their teams have access to an NHL level arena (or at least a decent minor league rink) so it wouldn't require construction. i get that it would conflict with hoops, but it could become a revenue sport pretty easily (it is in MN, ND, and Wisc.)dbackjon wrote:Same here - I would love for club teams at schools like Illinois and Penn State to go varsityTwinTownBisonFan wrote:i'd rather see more college hockey.

I know some in the hockey world are fearful of more Big 10 teams going varsity - if they then pulled out of the CCHA (Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State) and WCHA (Minnesota and Wisconsin) and formed a Big 10 Hockey conference - would really shake up college hockey.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:I don't see why the Big East hasn't gotten in on hockey... almost all of their teams have access to an NHL level arena (or at least a decent minor league rink) so it wouldn't require construction. i get that it would conflict with hoops, but it could become a revenue sport pretty easily (it is in MN, ND, and Wisc.)dbackjon wrote:

and we could finally get America East hockey and it would spur more club Northeast teams to finally go varsity with conference sponsorship.dbackjon wrote:I know some in the hockey world are fearful of more Big 10 teams going varsity - if they then pulled out of the CCHA (Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State) and WCHA (Minnesota and Wisconsin) and formed a Big 10 Hockey conference - would really shake up college hockey.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:

Mid-Atlantic south, it isn't big...but New England, college hockey is HUGE...TwinTownBisonFan wrote:I don't see why the Big East hasn't gotten in on hockey... almost all of their teams have access to an NHL level arena (or at least a decent minor league rink) so it wouldn't require construction. i get that it would conflict with hoops, but it could become a revenue sport pretty easily (it is in MN, ND, and Wisc.)dbackjon wrote:

And, folks here in the DC area will get a big taste of college hockey soon, as the Frozen Four takes place at the Verizon Center (aka The Phone Booth)...tickets are going for a premium on Stub Hub...
UMass hockey does a good job of putting butts in seats at the Mullins Center...even this year, which was not the greatest...we were ranked briefly...

I'd love a Big 10 Hockey conference... mostly because I find the "hockey exemption" foolhardy. and yes... that comes from years of watching UND have the best of both worlds... but also Mankato, St. Cloud, etcdbackjon wrote:I know some in the hockey world are fearful of more Big 10 teams going varsity - if they then pulled out of the CCHA (Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State) and WCHA (Minnesota and Wisconsin) and formed a Big 10 Hockey conference - would really shake up college hockey.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:

Big 10
America East
Ivy League
Big East
all could do hockey
half the MAC is in a position to add hockey too (BGSU, Miami have it and WMU just dropped it)

Where did you read WMU dropped hockey? They just finished the season, and I don't see anything to that effect.
BGSU is thinking about it though.
