My apologies for the rant last evening, but when someone posts about the virtues and desirability of government takeover of private property (physical or intellectual), I had to call them out.

Next thing they want to do is to take our 401Ks, and that will be only from my cold, dead hands.

What I don't understand is where the regulation-free, free market economy so loved by the right comes in to play.

If there are no regulations, then WTF is a patent, other than government regulation?

If you want to really piss them off you should mention how our "free" market exists BECAUSE of the government and not DESPITE the government.

No, and that's the point. They don't give up the profits on the ones that DO make it, and that helps make up for the duds....is that really that difficult to understand? It would be akin to asking Exxon-Mobil to sign over every producing oil well for a one-time, 10% profit, but be required to eat all the costs of exploration and dry wells. Surely you can see the basic flaw in that logic...

2) An honest and fair market with the greatest amount of freedom, opportunity, and competition requires rules. Who sets those rules?

I love how you 'progressives' like to constantly throw out the Somalia is a free-market example, but the truth is Somalia is in a state of anarchy, and we all know how you 'progressives' love your anarchists.

As I've said before, and something you would NEVER hear from your heroes like Cenk Uygar or Glenn Greenwald, Hong Kong is the world's greatest example of laissez-faire capitalism with a highly developed capitalist economy which also happens to be the freest in the world.
