That's good leadership on Eastern's part and it makes me realize how bad UNC's leadership is. We have more ticket sale revenue (from all sports) and more donation revenues, and we still can't get something like this. I want a new A.D!!!

I think I can speak for most all EWU fans when I say that Chaves has done a hell of a job, and I hope we keep him around a long time. He sees the big picture for EWU, and continues to build toward it. His philosophy is to invest in athletics, for the good of the entire university.
When he had one of his first meetings with coaches, Chaves told them, “I don’t know who it is in this room, but someone, we’ve got to get back on winning a banner,” referring to, of course, Big Sky Conference championships. “Because that will lead to another banner, that leads to another one and then that becomes contagious,” he explained.
There was success, sure, but “To win a championship is not easy,” Chaves said. “You can have a great year and finish second or third, well it’s not a banner.”
And while wins and successful programs on the field are the part by which the public judges Eastern athletics, it’s the academics that are the true bottom line. Success in both of these areas resulted in EWU winning the Big Sky Conference’s Sterling Savings Presidents’ Cup for the first time for the 2009-10 season.
The value-to-cost of Eastern playing Division I athletics is debated in some circles. But the residual advertising value the football team brought to the university this past year can’t be fully measured.
“For the institution to be able to be on that platform – 200 million homes – plus the other residual media benefits, that’s something,” Chaves said.
While no direct correlation has been linked to what the football team did in their run, at one point recently, out of state applications were up 50 percent, according to a report Chaves heard.
“I would assume that that one particular statistic, fairly attributable probably to the fact that we were exposed,” Chaves said. “There’s certainly no doubt that’s what athletics can do for you.” The school could not afford to buy that kind of advertising, “or would,” Chaves said.

Coming along. EWU, gettin' shit done at the last minute, per usual. Should be done in a week, in time to work the bugs out before the Griz game.

I understand that you guys went with "Inferno" since your field is red. However, this doesn't seem to have any relation to your mascot, Eagles. Aren't a bird and an inferno two things that should never be in the same place at the same time?

If you're going to go with Inferno, I think you should change your mascot to the Chili Peppers, the Firefighters, the Protesting Vietnamese Buddist Monks, or something that makes a little more sense. :twocents:

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the nickname. I didn't think the University should've given it an official nick name. Just call it Roos Field (everyone knows it's red), and once the Gateway Project is done, rename the stadium (whatever major donor's name). Roos Field at So and So Stadium.
