I'm not so sure you want to see the Euro sink right now.

Not really. Just tired of being jerked around by a shitpot third-world country that smells bad and won't shave its pits.

Yes, but I was talking about the dissolution of the Euro Zone.

I think Europe in general is a tragedy right now. It amazes me that there are some people that want us to emulate Europe...that I routinely see articles acting as though we are "wrong" because we don't do what "developed countries" in Europe are doing. It's our primary heritage (for now at least). But right now it's whacked.

That is pretty much the origin of Cinco de Mayo. France tried to collect on debts owed to it by Mexico and sent an army to collect. The Mexicans annihilated the French. In a sense, Cinco de Mayo is a celebrated of Mexicans shooting the repo men.

There are other implications. It's European money in U.S. Treasuries that is financing our debt at low rates. If inflation kicks up in Europe, that money will go elsewhere to take advantage of higher returns in Europe, driving up interest rates here and making it far more difficult for the U.S. government to finance its budget deficit. A double-dip recession and default wouldn't be out of the question.

The markets are underwhelmed by the Greek election results so far. An effective coalition government -- or any coalition government -- may be difficult to cobble together. :|

Actually no one in Mexico gives a sh!t about Cinco de Mayo. It does however give people in America an excuse to drink. :coffee:

And yes, it is based on the ass whooping Mexico handed the French but everyone thinks its Mexican Independence Day. :dunce:

That isn't happening anytime soon. UK, France, and Germany will make sure the core stays in.

Simon Johnson has called the single-currency policy of the Eurozone a "colossal error." He says that error more than cancels out the benefits of free trade and labor mobility that the Eurozone was intended to provide. And he's not at all confident that European political leaders and the IMF will be able to stem the tide of "capital flight" to Asia and North America that will wreck the European economy and take much of the world with it. Who knows: Germany may get tired of being the "ultimate lender" to the Eurozone and pull out of the euro before Greece does.
