STONY BROOK ATHLETICS
STONY BROOK ATHLETICS
Thanks to SBU Baseball Team, SB is now front and center in the national scene. With football already doing an incredible job recruiting, I think this national coverage will have a huge impact on recruiting and funding. what are your thoughts?

Boston U just accepted an offer to the Patriot League....I wonder if SBU will be a CAA full sport member by the end of the month! week or day!
Re: STONY BROOK ATHLETICS
BU to patriot really???????, with the possibilities of Albany and SB leaving what will become of the America east. I personally think they should invest in football with SB, Albany, Maine, UNH, Del, Townson, as the core.

Can't hurt. If they can make a little more noise at the Series then they will really get some good press. Hope they win it all.
Re: STONY BROOK ATHLETICS

Wait till you get an article in tw USA Today praising your athletic department, for being a small school with an excellent athletic program. Then a week later false accusations in USA Today with reports of wrong doing. Forcing players to be suspended, then waiting a year to find a NCAA investigation that clears said players of any infractions and you wasted your season.
It will happen just like it happened to Coastal in 2011

Except SBU's coach doesn't have a history of NCAA infractions.SENOREIDA wrote:Wait till you get an article in tw USA Today praising your athletic department, for being a small school with an excellent athletic program. I'm of a mixed mind about that.dbackjon wrote:You will get a bump, for sure.
May help your standing to get in CAA, etc.
Geographically, Stony Brook is a bad fit for the Big South. (Yes, I know they're in the South for one sport only. They're an OK fit for the AEC and a great geographic fit for the NEC, but it seems that they're proving to be better than either of those. I'm not so sure they're CAA-ready, but given all the shifting around, the CAA could well take them anyway, figuring that they could continue their improvement there and "grow into it," so to speak. And they'd probably dominate the CAA in baseball. Assuming their improvement continues, SBU would probably be competitive in all CAA sports within about five years of joining.
I say it's a good move, though it just MIGHT be a bit premature. Given the moving around, though, it could just be a matter of "striking while the iron is hot," and I would not be one to say they're wrong if they make the move now.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Why would Maine , New Hampshire , Delaware and Towson leave the CAA for the America East ?sbufan33 wrote:BU to patriot really???????, with the possibilities of Albany and SB leaving what will become of the America east. Re: STONY BROOK ATHLETICS
Geographically it makes alot of sense, It seems the CAA is becoming a southern conference, the America East has the potiential to have a very powerful Northern Conference if they could convince these nothern schools to Join"IF" the AE was to start football.Purple Reign wrote:Why would Maine , New Hampshire , Delaware and Towson leave the CAA for the America East ?sbufan33 wrote:BU to patriot really???????, with the possibilities of Albany and SB leaving what will become of the America east. Re: STONY BROOK ATHLETICS
I think SBU would be a terrific addition to the CAA right now, and the Seawolves recent baseball success would be most welcome. But dominate the CAA in baseball? Not likely. JMU and UD have made the CWS before, and along with most of the league generally field strong teams. And UNCW is a consistently strong national program, and the CAA recruits and produce pro players like Justin Verlander from ODU. SBU would certainly improve CAA baseball and compete for league championships, but dominate? No.SuperHornet wrote: I'm not so sure they're CAA-ready, but given all the shifting around, the CAA could well take them anyway, figuring that they could continue their improvement there and "grow into it," so to speak. SBU was #68 in the NACDA Directors' Cup this year. Higher than every other CAA team... Interesting that we may not be CAA Ready...
