Doug wanted to but Southern was running an option offense when he graduated high school. As for Rob, Mumford was already coaching at Grambling when his career started.

Thank you Jim Mora but obviously Grambling did just fine with Robinson at the helm 408 career wins only John Gagliardi from St.Johns(Minn) Division 3 accumulated more.

Yes because I think having a cousin around who is a fan of your school's biggest rival would be a lot of fun.

Many moons ago McNeese State and the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) were big rivals. if the game was in Lafayette you'd drive down I-10 to the game and see "Go to Hell McNeese" on banners draped off the overpasses the whole way. If the game was in Lake Charles you'd see "Go to Hell USL" banners. When the game was in Lake Charles I'd periodically hear cars zooming by all over town with people yelling "Go to Hell McNeese" out of the window. It was intense.

Well, maybe in my case it helped that McNeese almost always beat USL. Just get to the point where Southern almost always beats Grambling again and I'm sure you'll be fine with him being in your house.

Well, I moved to the Baton Rouge area in 1991 just in time to be here when Southern's great run started. They beat some I-AA playoff teams from time to time and completely owned the SWAC including Grambling. And back then, at least as indicated by the admittedly few Southern fans I heard on Baton Rouge sports talk radio at least some of their fans WANTED Southern to be in the playoffs and they WANTED them to play McNeese even though that was when McNeese was probably at its zenith because they were confident they could compete. It was a "we can play with anybody" mindset.

They were physical on both sides of the ball. No mamby pamby fancy stuff on offense. Smash mouth. And smothering on defense. They didn't just beat people. They punished people. In fact I've often wondered why they later changed their style since what they were doing worked so well.

Me, if I was a Southern fan during those days, I'd have LOVED having a cousin who was a Grambling fan in my house!
