OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University and Stephen F. Austin University will play a football home-and-home series in 2013 and 2014, WSU Athletic Director Jerry Bovee announced Wednesday.

The Wildcats will welcome the Lumberjacks to Stewart Stadium for the season opener on Aug. 31, 2013. Weber State will return the trip to Stephen F. Austin in 2014 when the two teams meet at Homer Bryce Stadium on Sept. 20, 2014. Stephen F. Austin is located in Nacogdoches, Texas and is a member of the Southland Conference.

“We’re looking forward to this series with Stephen F. Austin and are excited about our games with the Lumberjacks,” Bovee said. “With the ever changing landscape of college football it has been difficult to schedule games. We have wanted to schedule another home-and-home series with another FCS school and we feel this will be a great series for us.”

Weber State and Stephen F. Austin have never met in football. The Wildcats are 1-3 all-time against current members of the Southland Conference. WSU will begin a home-and-home series with McNeese State, also a member of the Southland Conference, this fall when the ‘Cats host the Cowboys Sept. 15 in the first home game of the season. WSU will return to McNeese State Sept. 21, 2013.

FCS schools are permitted to play 12 games in 2013 and 2014.

Man, I'm gettin' pretty jealous of Weebs scheduling these great OOC games against FCS competition. It befuddles me why EWU doesn't do this. Get some Pioneer teams on the schedule or something... they count. :ohno:

Any chance you could juggle some of those locations? All those @'s don't look so good....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

That is a brutal road schedule, but a fun one for WSU fans who travel.

Is 2013 a 12 game year? Sans Utah, there's already 11 scheduled.

Yep, both 2013 and 2014 are 12 game years. The AD said in passing months ago that the Utah game was agreed to but nothing official has been said by either side, and those agreements can always change. Plus, that was before the Pac 12 and Big 10 agreed to play every year. So the Utah game may or may not happen.

Here's hoping we can get that 5th home game to be against another FCS team, and not have to schedule a DII or lower team.
