UAlbany Stadium Construction Updates

Post by danefan »

Webcam up and running.

Excavation has started and they've started compressing the soil to ensure proper footings.

Most likely the 2013 opener, although the say the soil compression is ahead of schedule which may make it available in the Spring of 2013 for the spring game.

Is the new stadium going to be at the same site or a different place on campus?
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Different location.

The current football field is where the new track is going (#1) below. The new stadium will be in #3 where the old soccer field was.

“Compaction” is the word you want there…unless you east coasters use a different technical lingo.

What's the capacity going to be?

Looking back it looks like its also been called "compression."
1. Wick-and-Fill installation starts on or about 05/16.
2. Surcharge of site follows - approx 12'-14' of soil added to the existing site to assist in compressing the existing soils and creating the site countours for the stadium structure to be built.
I can't remember the exact capacity, but its somewhere in the 6,500 seat range of seating in Phase I with another 1,500 or so lawn seating. The lawn seating is tiered with concenssions and everything out there so its not just an afterthought.

Its small to start, but the build out in Phase I includes all sitework, electrical, plumbing, foundation, etc... to add a two-level away side in Phase II with minimal cost and effort. There will be Temp bleachers in that location for now.
