Hen, you raised an interesting point last week. I've always felt that a marriage was essentially a contract between two people and what right did the government have to say that said contract could only be between a man and a women. Why couldn't it be between a man and a man or a woman and a woman? The issue you raised was an interesting one .. Essentially, can't you also apply that logic and ask why not between first cousins? Brother and sister? 3+ people? Where do you draw the line and why?

You could argue that marriages between brother and sister or even first cousins raise legitimate health concerns if there are children but if you were so inclined you could also make a similar argument that homosexual marriage raises concerns about morality and the impact on society. I don't share those concerns but I recognize a more socially conservative individual's right to his or her opinion.

I'm not sure how to respond to the issue you raised. I need to think about it rather than giving you some kneejerk reaction.

You're a **** moron if you don't know the difference between gay and straight is attraction (including sex which is why you conks are against gays, unless you're a closet homo.)

It's the same crap all over again. Ignorant folks depriving people of the rights because they're "different."

Supporters of anti-miscegenation laws argued that it didn't deprive anyone of rights-- they were still free to marry people of the same sex. Same argument made by anti-gay marriage folks -- "we're not depriving anyone of equal rights. They can still marry people of the opposite sex just like everyone else."

Supporters of anti-miscegenation laws laid out the "slippery slope" argument still used by anti-gay marriage people. "Miscegenation will lead to bestiality, incest, polygamy, etc."

Supporters of anti-miscegenation laws argued that the children of mixed race couples would be deprived of a normal family and would not be raised appropriately. Same thing anti-gay marriage supporters argue.

The anti-miscegenation law supporters were overwhelmingly old, conservative, rural, and uneducated. Just like the anti-gay marriage folks.

40 years from now homophobes will be looked at with embarrassment and and derision just as racists of the mid-20th century were.

President Obama cashing in on gay marriage stance, selling LGBT merchandise

NY Daily News ^ | 5/12/12 | ALIYAH SHAHID

President Obama is banking on his endorsement of gay marriage to fill his campaign coffers. His team is selling a slew of LGBT merchandise on BarackObama.com, just days after his historic backing of same-sex couples tying the knot. The items include “I'm out for Obama" T-shirts, beer koozies that read "LGBT for Obama" and even baby onesies with messages like "My two moms support Obama.” The items cost anywhere from $10 to $40.

The front page of the Obama merchandise store is now dominated with gay gear. Even a “LGBT for Obama party pack.”

Go re read the bolded part. Makes zero sense. People way back in the day against interracial marriage weren't saying "they were still free to marry people of the same sex" as you claim.

You don't see the difference between the 2? I thought you were smarter than that.

When a black person walks into a room, people know he's black. Any visceral reaction they have towards black people (good, bad, indifferent) is there. When a gay person walks into a room, people don't automatically know whether or not he's gay (unless he's one of the super flamboyant homos). No visceral reaction. Homosexuality is a behavioral trait. Skin color isn't.

How many gays in America were slaves?
How many gays have been lynched compared to blacks lynched?
How many segregated schools for gays have there been compared to segregated schools for blacks and whites?
How many things like separate lunch counters, separate seating sections at places like theaters, sporting events, water fountains, etc have there there been for gays compared to blacks?
How many gays have had water hoses & dogs turned on them in protests compared to blacks?
Etc, etc, etc.

I'm not surprised that a lot of civil rights leaders get annoyed at the gay rights people trying to equate their movement with the past Civil Rights movement.

Again, apples to oranges.

Oh, so we should only give rights to people as long as we can tell what they are by looking at them. Always judge a book by its cover eh?

I suppose that if you want to nitpick you could claim every argument is apples to oranges but your logic sounds like something out of George Orwells Animal Farm. Homosexuals want the same rights as everyone else, they probably don't realize that having ancestors as slaves is a requirement. Maybe someday, if they are lucky, enough of them will be lynched and they be recognized.

"Sorry you can't get married because we didn't turn the dogs and water hoses on your grandparents, come back after you've been segregated."

Nice job turning civil rights into a pissing contest.

From conservapedia:
Bigotry
Bigotry is the expression of hatred or aggression towards those who are different. Examples of bigotry include racism and religious intolerance.
Bigotry is common among atheists, elitists, liberals, Muslims and homosexuals towards critics of their ideologies. Some liberals deceitfully claim to uphold equality of all viewpoints and free speech, but are in fact routinely prejudiced against opposing viewpoints. They are particularly bigoted against Christians (and indeed faith in general) and Family Values. It is typical to see liberals refer to their opponents as racists, fascists, Nazis, rednecks, fanatics, or any number of more profane slurs. Bigotry can also be evidently seen when people refer to others who disagree with them as bigots or
intolerant, and this is a severe form of hypocrisy because it excuses their accountability by blaming someone else.

Obama Campaign Uses Mother’s Day to Raise Cash

by Keith Koffler on May 11, 2012, 11:34 am

The Obama campaign, which seemingly will try any fundraising scheme that occurs to it, is using Mother’s Day to get people to part with their money.

You're dumb. Gays, like blacks, have been discriminated, hated, treated like 2nd class citizens. They have been ridculed in schools, they have been threaten. That is the comparison. Gay Rights are Civil Rights and if you don't get that it means you are
A) Too stupid to understand it
B) An irrational hatred of gays
c) A closet homosexual
D) A crazed religious zealot that believes in a man in the sky (He creates light on Day 1 and then on Day $ creates the source of power? How does that **** work)
E) All of the above.

Something tells me you are all of the above. Unenlightened twits like you will be weeded out and our society will continue to mautre and thrive.
And right now you sound like another crazed left wing bigot :dunce: who is intolerant towards anyone who disagrees with gay marriage and won't equate it to the civil rights movemt. Just like Dback, resorting to name calling  Notice on this thread who started the name calling. Maybe you're the closeted one....
Sounds like? Perhaps. But i'm far from left wing and and far from right wing. I am of the idea that I have no authority and a majority of this country has no authority to persecute other people simply because they are against a long established (even if unjuslty) accepted norm. I'm enlightened and find it amazing that in the 21st Centruy, we sitll have people that are filled with so much bigotry.

I can be a man and admit my mistake of name calling. But to be honest, what percieved threat do you see in allowing gays en to have to enjoy the same rights that you are wife enjoy? Answer that question please. Remember, this country is not a Theocracy, so don't bring religion into it.
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17
