It will be interesting to see how this plays out.He got about 52% of votes in Sunday's run-off, according to early projections, against 48% for centre-right incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy.
Mr Sarkozy has admitted defeat, saying: "Francois Hollande is the president of France and he must be respected."
Analysts say the vote has wide implications for the whole eurozone. Mr Hollande has vowed to rework a deal on government debt in member countries.

All right, Hollande, what is your proposed alternative to the austerity?

I hope the German and British banks have insulated themselves from France like they did with Spain and Italy. This is going to be a shit storm.

Seriously, The Euro was set up for failure. Mutliple economies, multiple budgets, multiple political and economic ideals all using the same currency was a bad idea.

Of course, that failure was preceeded by a massive trickle up failure, so it would seem that the partisan idea of either philosophy in complete isolation from the other is a course for failure.kalm wrote:Trickle down fail.

Don't disagree. Keynes was right in that austerity should occur during times of growth. That seems to be a big part of the problem here. The middle class is dangerous, especially once you show them how good life can be. They might just throw the cake back in your face.GannonFan wrote:Of course, that failure was preceeded by a massive trickle up failure, so it would seem that the partisan idea of either philosophy in complete isolation from the other is a course for failure.kalm wrote:Trickle down fail.

Keynes also thought that deficit spending shouldn't occur in time of growth either, but we see how so-called modern day "Keynesians" don't ascribe to those ideals any more.kalm wrote:Don't disagree. Re: Socialism Returns to France
Neo-Keynesians aren't Keynesians at all. They are socialists. The Left has embraced the government stimulus aspect of the Keynesian model because it justifies their expanding government and governmental control. They have conveniently forgotten the other side of the Keynesian model.Baldy wrote:Keynes also thought that deficit spending shouldn't occur in time of growth either, but we see how so-called modern day "Keynesians" don't ascribe to those ideals any more.kalm wrote:

Keynes was never a socialist, as many socialists like to claim. He was a lifelong member of the Liberal Party. He rejected the approaches of the Labour Party, who wanted to make Keynes the face and voice of British socialism.
