AND GONE...
Richard Grenell, openly gay Romney aide, resigns after backlash
An openly gay Republican operative hired as Mitt Romney's foreign policy spokesman has abruptly resigned from the campaign, suggesting the focus on his personal life had become a distraction.

In a statement to The Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin, Grenell implies that the controversy over his sexual orientation ultimately drove him from the campaign.
Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association shared his disappointment with the Grenell pick on Twitter: “Romney picks out & loud gay as a spokesman. If personnel is policy, his message to the pro-family community: drop dead.”

Re: Romney hires gay foreign policy spokesman
I read it breifly and it sounded like it wasn't coming from the top, ie, Romney. He wanted him to stay. Sounds kind of like a non issue to me. There we some other things that happened (I didn't know nor care) that could have influenced him.dbackjon wrote:So, it turns out gays ARE NOT WELCOME in the Republican Party - who knew?

Yeah, like members of the party publicly denouncing the appointment based on his gayness.GrizFanStuckInUtah wrote:I read it breifly and it sounded like it wasn't coming from the top, ie, Romney. Romney hires gay foreign policy spokesman
That isn't what I take from this, given all the available info, but then your mileage obviously varies.dbackjon wrote:So, it turns out gays ARE NOT WELCOME in the Republican Party - who knew?
The militant lefty gay community could just as easily have been poking him, and you know it.
Either way, too bad. It would be nice to see the GOP co-opt the militant twinkies and the bull dykes. They don't represent the real gay majority, anyway.

Romney doesn't have a problem with the Gays
I would put this on the Dems fake Republican war on women
When he posted some anti women posts on Twitter his fate was sealed so Obama’s fault

Grenell was also criticized for using crude language talking about women on his Twitter account. He later apologized and deleted the tweets.
Grenell had previously worked in the President George W. Bush administration for Ambassadors John Negroponte, John Danforth, John Bolton and Zalmay Khalilizad.
In a message to Rubin, a Romney campaign spokesperson said, "We are disappointed that Ric decided to resign from the campaign for his own personal reasons. We wanted him to stay because he had superior qualifications for the position he was hired to fill."

I have decided to resign from the Romney campaign as the Foreign Policy and National Security Spokesman. While I welcomed the challenge to confront President Obama’s foreign policy failures and weak leadership on the world stage, my ability to speak clearly and forcefully on the issues has been greatly diminished by the hyper-partisan discussion of personal issues that sometimes comes from a presidential campaign.
I want to thank Governor Romney for his belief in me and my abilities and his clear message to me that being openly gay was a non-issue for him and his team.

When you read these quotes, it is exactly what I was trying to say above. It didn't come from Romney, in fact, the opposite is true. And there is ALWAYS more to the story then the public ever knows.Bronco wrote:-

Romney may have supported the guy, but he didn't fight for him. Too scripted and cautious. He'll never beat Obama without taking the gloves off.GrizFanStuckInUtah wrote:When you read these quotes, it is exactly what I was trying to say above. Hard to say really. If Grenell is at peace with Romney on it, I am having a hard time faulting him for it. God knows there are a lot of idiots I wish I could make do or act differently but the fact is, idiots will be idiots.

No argument that the guy CNN featured was best left in the dark - CNN made a poor choice that made a mountain out of a molehill.kalm wrote:If the religious right didn't have a problem with it, CNN might not have any reason to sensationalize.ASUG8 wrote:

Again I get what you're saying in this matter, but isn't someone's sexual preference a mole hill? Who's truly made the mountain out of that?ASUG8 wrote:No argument that the guy CNN featured was best left in the dark - CNN made a poor choice that made a mountain out of a molehill.kalm wrote:
