The War on Terror is over.
So when will the Dept. of Homeland Security be disbanded and the Patriot Act repealed?

"The war on terror is over," a senior official in the State Department official tells the National Journal. "Now that we have killed most of al Qaida, now that people have come to see legitimate means of expression, people who once might have gone into al Qaida see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism."

Since you can't declare war on a noun, the war is over when the government says it is.
Also, I don't think the DHS was ever created to be a temporary agency.

It's a nice soundbite, but I doubt its over. al Qaida might have been diminished, but there are too many sympathizers in the Middle East as well as stateside. They hate us for everything we stand for in spite of giving them billions of dollars in aid and spending billions trying to set up what qualifies as a band-aid governmental effort. Iran can destabilize most of the "progress" that's been made over the past ten years in a very short period of time.

I think you are forgetting about those who are actually perpetrating the terror. I haven't heard any them say the war is over.

The War on Terror is over.
DHS was a good idea in that it brought a lot of formerly separate agencies together that had similar purposes. USCIS, ICE and a few others. The idea was that they would all be singing off the same sheet of music. Unfortunately, as in all things government, the implementation was poorly done, and there are no do-overs.CitadelGrad wrote:Pwns wrote:Since you can't declare war on a noun, the war is over when the government says it is.

If we get rid of DHS, all the constituent agencies will remain (since most existed before DHS combined them under the same umbrella) except they will all become provincial again.
