Wulff would be a good choice, but I have a couple of better ones. How about North Texas OC Mike Canales? He has experience recruiting in Utah, having been OC at Snow JC, and he has an amazing offense.
My other choice would be StL Rams Special Teams Coordinator John Fassel. He's been a HC at the D-II level with a whole lot less talent, and is more than ready to do it again. And he would be a major plus given that he is a former Wildcat quarterback and wide receiver. (I'm STILL mad about how he came off the bench TWO years in a row to screw Sac over with a quick kick. LOL.)

Meyer did seem to leave UF at a convenient time. Poor offense after his offensive genius left, mounting off the field issues with players, a "sentimental and heartfelt" announcement about how he needed to step away from UF for health and family reasons....rkwittem wrote:So John L. Smith should've predicted that the Arkansas job would become available and not taken the Weber State gig? Get a clue. I bet you were one of the people who dissed Urban Meyer for returning from his sabbatical to coach Ohio State.Appaholic wrote:Glad to see Arkansas has pursured another coach with ethics...a real "man of his word" kind of guy, to replace Petrino...
No one planned it this way- neither Smith nor Meyer could predict these jobs would become open.

Agreed. But it's funny reading the responses. People who aren't fans of the FCS hate Woj and that article.dbackjon wrote:Glad he called him outOptimusPrime wrote:"Kick to the groin." Woj not holding back:

Like I said to the Griz fans, Jerry Glanville is available and he has experience coaching in the Big Sky.
This, as well as the Montana situation, is why I hold off on predictions until closer to the beginning of the season. Too many variables to account for.

That's a good article. Glad he's getting called on this. Certainly the money and the prestige is appealing, but I do feel bad for Weber.OptimusPrime wrote:"Kick to the groin." Woj not holding back:

I hope this whole ordeal just pisses the Weber players off and they come out and make a statement.

Sucks for the Wildcats short-term but I wonder if it might be a good thing long-term. Smith's Spartan teams got progressively worse and it looked like his success prior to MSU was due to Petrino and others. IMO, if he was willing to leave Weber like this than he really didn't want to be there and good riddance.

Re: John L Smith Leaving Weber for Arkansas
I didn't even know this had happened until I saw this thread so I Googled what's going on. It would be really neat if he was so loyal to his alma mater that he passed on a chance to coach at a Southeastern Conference school but I can't believe anybody would think he's BAD for doing it. They're going to pay him $850,000 for 10 months and if he does well he could end up getting a longer gig. Plus IT'S A SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE FOOTBALL PROGRAM. Moreover it's in the upper half of Southeaster Conference Football programs.
What was he going to make per year at Weber State? I want to see how many years he'd have had to coach at Weber State to get to or above $850,000. And if he stayed at Weber State and passed up this opportunity when would he have next have had an opportunity to be a head coach a program at Arkansas' level?

Re: John L Smith Leaving Weber for Arkansas
If I read that "kick in the groin" article correctly he took a pay cut from the $235,000 per year he was making at Arkansas to GO to Weber State. So he WAS willing to take a pay cut to go there and be head coach. But then he saw a chance to be head coach at an SEC school. I mean, c'mon.

Money isn't always the best reason to leave a job, and he may have ago himself in the foot. Best of luck to him.

Re: John L Smith Leaving Weber for Arkansas
He had a 4-year contract worth about $525,000 at Weber State. So, yes, I would have taken it as well. 10 months for $850,000 and the worst that can happen is that he isn't continued or $525,000 for four years (probably weighted toward the later years) and he could have been fired sooner than that. I figure he will have earned more at Arkansas by the 4th of the July than he would have made his first year at Weber State.JohnStOnge wrote: They're going to pay him $850,000 for 10 months and if he does well he could end up getting a longer gig. ...
