It would be a loss. He's done a lot of good things for ASU football, less so for the basketball program.

I agree. He's been a good AD, but I wouldn't fault him if this is truly a better opportunity.

A lot of our fans blame him for hiring Capel over some more experienced guys.

His involvement with the Buzz Peterson fiasco and the current mess that is ASU basketball are what I was referring to. In a word, no he doesn't coach them.

Personally, I think most App fans can say the same about themselves. Our fan support for basketball is embarrassing. Why do we expect others to support it?

You're right. More fans in the seats would be great for recruiting, but not many people want to go watch a team win 10 games in a season. If they put a better product on the court you'd likely see better support. A lot of that starts with the coach and recruiter-in-chief.

Same can be said for mens hoops at UD. There've been so many bad years in a row, and even though there's signs of improvement, there are still major concerns about our coaching....even with an AD who used to be at Georgetown, is on the board of USA Basketball, and will be on the NCAA hoops tourney selection committee.

People are only going to show up to see a good product, and there are still a lot of questions in the air about UDMB.

To be fair to Cobb, the two basketball coaching searches are two negatives up against about 500 positive things he's done.

Most likely scenario right now is that the Alliance goes to 20 and adds UNT, UTSA, La Tech and FIU. 3 would be on the CUSA side and likely UTSA and UTEP go to the MWC side for 10/10. SBC wants to go to 12/14. Texas St., Charlotte, and App St. or ODU seem to be their targets. UTA is also a candidate to be the bball member.

I don't see where Appalachian is better off with Cobb than we were with Roachel Laney. In fact, we're much deeper in debt with student fees nearly doubled, and a 10% decline in home football attendance last year.

I don't believe Charlie had much to do with our football success in his early years as AD; he just took advantage of it to upgrade the stadium and immediate facilities. Nothing really innovative or creative about any of his funding models.

Other than financing the move to FBS by cutting student fees, raising ticket prices and alumni donations, and relying on corporate support -- all for the operational and capital expenses for 22 varsity sports in the move.

Suckers.
