2012 North Dakota Spring Football Preview

■We have heard good things about transfer QB Braden Hanson (North Carolina) and are interested to see how he stacks up with the existing QB’s on the roster that are fighting for that starting spot – Joey Bradley, Marcus Hendrickson, and Chris Comes. Coach Mussman has said that all 4 quarterbacks will get #1 reps initially. This can only last so long, though.

■The IPF deal has been close to a “done deal” a few times during the last 6 months. Sanford and Altru have both been rumored to be involved with the discussions and negotiations. President Kelley has stated to recruits that a deal will happen this year and shovels will be in the ground – we are still waiting (impatiently) for an announcement

■New field turf will be installed at the Alerus upon the conclusion of spring ball and will be ready to go for kick-off on August 30th for the 1st home game. Here’s to hoping it is a unique and exciting design.

Good luck to the incoming freshman, and to those battling for a spot on the starting roster!! :thumb:

Spring came in December. We had very little snow all year. In fact they moved the UND-NDSU baseball game originally scheduled for the Metrodome this weekend (thinking of a normal spring thaw) back to Grand Forks and Fargo because of no snow and 70's for highs.

For the past two seasons, North Dakota would be considered a "3 yards and a cloud of dust" type offense. Mostly due to poor QB play.

Our current head coach was the offensive coordinator from 2001-2007. During that time, North Dakota had some of the finest QB's to ever play the position at our university, and in the same time-frame set most of the schools historical passing records.

If the personell is there, my guess is that our head coach desires to run a pro-style, balanced offense as was the norm from about 2001 to 2009. The coaching staff has brought in a transfer from North Carolina who was rated in the top 25 in the country at the QB position when he came out of high-school.

So to answer your question, North Dakota has been running a very conservative, vanilla offense recently. But I believe that their ultimate philosophy is to run a very balanced, ultimately more pass-heavy offensive style.

I hope so if does play out maybe the pro scouts will find their way to your school.

Lakes can't see successful FBS teams outside of the Gophers and the MAC.
