Zimmerman calls Martin a "fucking coon"

yeah, no racism there
Can't be racist, Zimmerman isn't white. :coffee:
Zimmerman's family has denied several allegations that race played a role in the shooting, saying he has many minority relatives and friends. A police report describes him as a white male, but his family says he is Hispanic.
ON a serious note, he fucked up and should stand trial for this IMHO. Let that process determine if he goes to jail and/if for how long. :twocents:

I know you are being sarcastic, but seriously, some of the most racist people towards blacks I have seen in AZ are hispanics, and vice-versa.

Plus, you can be a white hispanic

I was more poking fun at their comment to be honest. That is always the greatest excuse...."I can't be racist, I have black/yellow/brown/white friends!" The wrost part is, if you have to justify it, you probably are wrong.

My wife grew up in Sanford and my in laws still live there so this one is (literally) close to home for me. The kid's dad is an old softball player of good repute (still plays nationally on the black circuit) around these parts so I know the dad. I feel so sorry for the family.

I don't know if this case passes muster to be classified as a hate crime but it certainly is murder and is absolutely uncalled for.

Zimerman was a volunteer neighborhood watch guy for the HOA, not even a rent-a-cop. A rent-a-cop would have been a lot better option for the HOA in retrospect.

The Sanford PD has just tripped over their dicks and broke their noses with this case, bringing dishonor both to themselves and the city in this case. Shame on them and the chief needs to go. It is my understanding that the state and feds have stepped in so charges may still be brought yet.

I'm certainly no legal scholar but it seems like the Martin family has a pretty good civil case against both Zimmerman and the HOA. I hope they fully pursue that remedy when the time comes. As for Zimmerman, he might be better off arrested, things are getting pretty hot around these parts and he has to be in danger.

I was hoping you would chime in, since you live so close - but didn't realize you had a personal connection - wow.

I had not heard the rent a cop thing before reading on here this morning or that he was in contact with some watch commander. It was just a neighborhood watch guy calling 911 and it may not have even been some organized thing he may have just been doing this on his own.

I'll have to go with bb's description on the matter but will be interested to see if he was on some HOA setup thing and they would be in harm's way over this. It's just hard to believe that an HOA would allow a regular guy to carry around a gun on his watch. If they did they are rightfully fucked on this.

They are going to have to round up this Zimmerman tard and put him in jail for his own protection. Bet they do that in the next 24 hours or so.

This is picking up so much steam here, rioting al la Rodney King episode is very near. If the state does not act, the feds will I would bet.

You either need a hearing aid, or have that ecb/gop bias filter removed. Take another "listen."

That's why I didn't say what I hear him say. Last Thurs. when they were playing this on the show it wasn't noticed at all then on Friday or Monday they played it again and told to listen to that section and a ton of people heared "Fuckin' Coons" and yet another bunch heard "Fucking Punks".

Nobody is hearing it based on trying to unload some scorn on him but they don't hear it the same for some reason. I hear "Fuckin' Coons" as well btw.

Right now we don't really know the full story. We know the kid wasn't armed. But we don't know whether or not the guy who did the shooting had a basis for reasonably believing he was in danger even if he really wasn't.

Unfortunately, it's become a political thing. Demonstrations in New York and such. The answer to the question of whether or not the guy should be charrged should not be influenced by news media coverage or public demonstrations. But it probably will be.

And this thing about the guy saying "****ing coon." I saw that all over the internet. I guess maybe someone can do some kind of sophisticated analysis to see. But I've listened to that 911 thing repeatedly going back and forth over that section and what he said is not at all clear. I'm like someone else on this thread in that if someone asked me what he said and I had to pick something I'd say "punk."

We know the kid was LEAVING and the guy FOLLOWED him, when expressly told NOT TO by the 911 operator. Hell, the kid probably thought the GUY was dangerous, the way he was looking at him and following him....

In this case (not all) it's probably a good thing that it's getting the attention. The local police clearly wanted to sweep this under the rug, and 50 years ago Zimmerman may have been considered a hero.

Except...
The last thing the kid said to his girlfriend was "I think I'm being followed." Zimmerman says now he's turned and looking at me. Kid runs. Zimmerman chases. And in the other 911 call the kid is screaming "Help" "Help me!" repeatedly and frantic until he is ultimately shot.
To me that's a pretty good indication Zimmerman wasn't in danger.
