Again, this is going to leave a mark. President Obama has to mange a very sticky situation now on the world stage.

Question: How would Santucci and Gangrene handle this incident? Romnoid?

Maybe BO should back off the escalation and move the troops home. Last time I checked the chain of command ends with him. :coffee:

Um, he is a leader in working those people outta there. Said just yesterday that it's time to reconsider what we're doing there. But, for now, he has to manage it. Taliban's promising revenge.

How would each of these guys handle this, men?

Not a fan of any of them, but with 1 hand behind their back and blind-folded, they could handle it better than Obama. Actually Hilary is the one that could probably handle it the best.

2009 December - US President Barack Obama decides to boost US troop numbers in Afghanistan by 30,000, bringing total to 100,000. He says US will begin withdrawing its forces by 2011.

We've been way too slow in getting ourselves extricated from the mess in Afghanistan. It's been clear for awhile now that we won't be able to effect any long term change there. We're going to have to go back in there and clean things out probably once every decade and nothing we do right now is going to change that inevitibility. I think politics has had as much to do with this as anything - leaving Afghanistan in its current state is going to look like we couldn't make the cultural changes that were necessary, and doing that in an election year is sure to give Obama a lot of criticism as to why we doubled down on Afghanistan in the first place. I'd look for Obama in 2013, following reelection, to just back out entirely.

The stated reason for going into Afghanistan in the first place was to oust the Taliban, dismantle Al Qaeda, and bring Osama Bin Laden to justice. All three have been accomplished... all we as a nation are doing now there is wasting blood and treasure in a place we aren't liked or wanted.

GTFO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gingrich: He'll pull all of our troops out of the country. Every last American soldier and civilian.

The next day he'll send over enought nuke warheads to create a new lake where Afghanistan used to be.

Santorum: He will pray for them. He will collect all the dead, bring them to White House and snuggle each of them for 15 minutes. Then he'll get caught with his pants down (probably with a MALE intern) and leave the White House in disgrace.

Romney: He'll send them all magic underwear and convert everyone to Mormonism. THen, he install a Pretender in the Presidency, use his business skills to control the Poppy fields and Opium market, create a multi-billion dollar industry that will be used to pay down the debt and then, when the land is raped, he'll sell Afghanistan off to the highest bidder.

All within the 100 days (except for Romney)

Thoughts? :coffee:

Things change, Mort. Think W expected to be in Iraqistan so long (then have Obama clean it up for him)?

And the hopey-changey thing is working quite grandly for me right now. Conks are on the run, a change normal Americans have hoped for for 30 years.

Uh-huh, you betcha.

Agree. Sebastian Junger was on morning Joe today and pretty much said the same thing. As soon as we pull out, the Taliban will come right back into prominence. However, he did point out that during the civil war of the 90's. 400,000 civilians were killed, in the decade since Nato has been there, only 10,000 have been. Kabul has modernized a bit, people have cell phones, there has been some progress made.

But I still think the fact that war is good for some people's business plays a significant role.
