You're probably a child molester
The difference between saying someone you don't know is "probably" a chlld molester and saying a woman you don't know is a "slut" is that only a low percentage of people are child molesters while the overwhelming majority of American women are sluts. If you say a person you randomly select from the United States population is going to be a child molester the probability is overwhelming that you will be wrong. But if you say that an American woman you randomly select is going to be a slut the probability is overwhelming that you will be right.

Slut is a derogatory term for a sexually prominent woman. Why does sexual prominence make one bad? That's a cultural thing that's changing by the day (and for good reason). Today a slut has a more derogatory connotation than it did, say 30 years ago, as it's beyond sexual and more of a character attack as in one is adulterous, dishonest, addicted to sex for physical and not emotional reasons, etc (Which there is a difference between that and sexual liberation).

So Jon, when you call people sluts, they don't think you're calling them that in the sexually liberated connotation, but rather the attack on the character connotation. That's one of the reasons where Rush went wrong. It's in your best interest to not look like a jackass and apologize for making such a claim about someone, even though you probably didn't mean it as such. Your point would come across better. But then again, I doubt you will, as it is the internet after all. Just use your reasoning to a random person on the street and see how far it gets you.

As I typed earlier in this thread, the overwhelming majority of women of today would fit the traditional perception of what a "slut" is. It's sexual liberation. She may not be. But if I had to bet, I'd bet she is. I'd bet she lost her virginity before she got out of high school. I'd bet she's copulated with multiple partners outside of the realm of marriage. So on and so forth.

I didn't say I think there's anything wrong with being a slut. But, good grief, is you want to be a slut like most women of today are don't get all upset when someone says you're a slut. Modern women in the United States are, in general, sluts. Exceptions are fairly rare.
I know quite a few women that are not sluts. You shouldn't make generalizations like that. It's pretty stuipd and you're most likely wrong. I've had sex with 9-12 women. Does it make me a slut? You're ridiculous and a bigot. You are the new JBB. Who gives the right to judge?

The news is troubling, but it’s also misleading. While some young people are clearly engaging in risky sexual behavior, a vast majority are not. The reality is that in many ways, today’s teenagers are more conservative about sex than previous generations.

Today, fewer than half of all high school students have had sex: 47.8 percent as of 2007, according to the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey, down from 54.1 percent in 1991.

A less recent report suggests that teenagers are also waiting longer to have sex than they did in the past. A 2002 report from the Department of Health and Human Services found that 30 percent of 15- to 17-year-old girls had experienced sex, down from 38 percent in 1995. During the same period, the percentage of sexually experienced boys in that age group dropped to 31 percent from 43 percent.

Approximately 92% of both men and women have had five partners or less in college.

The vast majority of college students are not promiscuous, and there is no difference between the sexes.

One myth about promiscuity is that most men have many more sexual partners than women. The truth, studies show, is that by age 44, the average man has had about seven sexual partners and the average woman has had four. About 33 percent of men and 9 percent of women report having more than 10 sexual partners in their lifetime.

What constitutes a slut? SUre, there are sluts. I've fucked a few of them in college (and got a really bad scare when one said she was pregnant) but to say a majority of women are sluts is reckless. 5 sexual partners in 4 years of college, for instance, is 1.25 a year. That doesn't make one a slut.

Exaggerate much?

Top starting salaries in the entire country are the $160k figure and that generally only applies to major NYC and DC firms. Less than 50% of G'Town law grads make that. Avg is probably in the $80-100k range especially considering the number of G'Town grads that go into government.

And sorry man, making $160k is far from the 1%.

Today a slut has a more derogatory connotation than it did, say 30 years ago, as it's beyond sexual and more of a character attack as in one is adulterous, dishonest, addicted to sex for physical and not emotional reasons, etc (Which there is a difference between that and sexual liberation).
There is absolutely no basis for saying that. "Slut" still basically means "easy." The woman "puts out." Now, I will say that "slut" is a somewhat subjective term. So it might be viewed as relative. So like if you define a "slut" as among the most promiscuous 1% of women or something like that someone who would've been thought of as a "slut" 50 years ago might not be thought of as a "slut" today.

But I'm talking about how "slut" has been construed over most of the history of this country. American women of today "put out." They do. I was, I think, a little off on the point at which the majority have lost their virginity because I looked it up and the average age is 17.

But I also think back on my own experience. Basically, if a woman likes you, she will screw you. Exceptions are rare. "All the way" has become what "smooching" used to be.

Obviously I don't object to the situation. But that's the situation.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

Does an Albany Law grad exagerate much? Considering it was an Albany Law grad that made the claim:

"...So you and Sandra have something in common. right?

MEGYN KELLY, FOX NEWS ANCHOR: Well, we both went to law school, and that's about where it ends.

This story jumped out at me in a significant way, and our viewers reacted to it immediately when we aired the sound bite of her testifying. This is before the whole controversy really erupted. Because I, like Ms. Fluke, went to law school. I also didn't have a lot of money to pay; didn't look like her parents are paying for her. She's got a scholarship. I don't know where she gets the rest of the money. But we have very, very different attitudes about what it meant to be in law school.

Let me tell you... I didn't go to Georgetown; I went to Albany. Georgetown is a top 14 law school. Ms. Fluke would have the world believe that she is somehow a victim because she is at Georgetown Law School and is not getting her contraception paid for by the law school.

When I went to law school, which I put myself through for $100,000 dollars of debt, I didn't expect anybody to pay for my health insurance, which I had none of. No health insurance. And I'm sure a lot of your viewers can relate right now, because they, too, didn't have health insurance. They too didn't have anybody paying their way through college or for… or through professional school.

So, I put myself $100,000 dollars into debt. Didn't have health insurance at all, never mind contraception coverage. And never once did I think of myself as a victim who needed somebody else to step in and pay for those things for me.

O'REILLY: But you went to law school in the 1930s, right?

KELLY: Starting to feel that way. Early '90s.

O'REILLY: Aren't we… aren't we getting more benevolent in this country now that we're extending the government largess to people to make their lives better? I mean, isn't that the theme of the Obama administration?

KELLY: Ironically, I think that Sandra Fluke has done more to undermine support for that type of program for the President's health-care law than anybody else in recent memory. Because listen...

O'REILLY: But the polls show… the latest polls show that President Obama, his support among American women has gone up seven points. All right? Because, I guess women think that he's sticking up for them.

KELLY: Because the Democrats are talking about how there's a war on women now.

BUT, MY POINT IS THIS: there are people out there who are really hurting right now. I think of my own sister. She doesn't have a job right now. She's a single mom of three kids, two of whom are in college.

She does not care about where Ms. Fluke is getting her contraception coverage from. She cares about getting a job and, hopefully, getting health insurance for her family. She doesn't want to see our Congress people wasting time talking about her contraception coverage of a Georgetown Law School student.

Guess what the starting salary is if you graduate from Georgetown Law School. The average starting salary... our viewers may not know this… $160,000 a year for your first year out of law school. These are not victims. These are the elite. These are the luckiest young professionals among them in our country..........."

Yes we can exaggerate with the best of them.

Megyn Kelly is a Fox News pundit that knows nothing about the state of law schools job placement post 2007. She hasn't even held a legl job for 10+ years. She flocking hot, but she's also a Fox blowhard like the rest of them. She is not a legal expert by any means. She's a reporter.

Yes. Though the term is usually used to refer to women, it is not a gender specific term. "Slut" can be used to describe a promiscuous male.

Today, fewer than half of all high school students have had sex: 47.8 percent as of 2007, according to the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey, down from 54.1 percent in 1991.
Yes, I wrote in another post before I saw yours that I probably was off a little in saying that the majority of girls lost their virginity in high school because I saw an estimate that said the average age at which a woman lost her virginity is 17. That made me think it's probably about half that lose their virginity in high school; which is consistent with the 47.8 percent estimate. So I could just adjust the statement to say most lose their virginity prior to 20 years of age and would almost certainly be correct. Actually I could probably say before 18 but you have to be careful about the possibility that it's a skewed distribution and the mean might be higher than the median. Probably 18 would do though.

Approximately 92% of both men and women have had five partners or less in college.
That statement implies thinking that having five sex partners in college is not a lot by historical standards. I think that it is. It'd be interesting to see them report the median. Also it'd be good to see an estimate of how many women lose their virginity after becoming married.

Additionally you should go back and read your own quoted data. It actually supports my position.

$160k is the Median starting salary of the people that go to work in the private sector that report their compensation to the Career Center.

Are we just going to ignore all the other people that graduate from Georgetown law?

You know, the ones that make the median for "public sector"? Read your own data and tell me what their starting salary is.

How about those people that don't report their compensation?

I'm no statistician but I don't think you can spinthose numbers in any which way and get an AVERAGE of $160k a year.
Racist ahole. So bitter you don't make as much as a woman. Bitch, maybe you should stay home and not only fold the towels, but make the sammiches.

Yes. Though the term is usually used to refer to women, it is not a gender specific term. "Slut" can be used to describe a promiscuous male.
Well, I was single until I was 43 and travelled all over the country playing ball until I was 46. I banged upwards of 150 women through the years (which if you think about it ain't that much from 18-41 an average of 8 diffrerent ones a year). I don't know the exact number but I GUARANDAMNTEE it is over 150.

So am I a slut, uber slut, or just plain old whoredawg? Or was I simply a virile white male with a very good job and a great hobby who really enjoyed life?

Speaking of Megyn Kelly who is indeed smoking hot:
So how to explain Kelly's apparent about-face? Stewart presented a hypothesis: "They're really only 'entitlements' when they're something other people want. When it's something you want, they're a a hallmark of a civilized society, the foundation of a great people. 'I just had a baby, and found out that maternity leave strengthens society, but since I still have a job, unemployment benefits are clearly socialism."

He concluded, "Either Megyn Kelly has inadvertently exposed the hypocrisy at the heart of conservative demonization of unions and the working class, or--oh my God, it's worse than I thought--Megyn Kelly is suffering from postpartum compassion."

Which one is it?

You are somebody who had a really good time. Actually I think I'm going to retract saying it isn't a gender term. I did see one definition of it that is like that (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/slut" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). But considering the origin of the word I think it really is a "female" word.

Anyway, think about it this way with respect to what I am saying. Imagine you could take people from 1950 and zap them into the future (now). I have no doubt that they would think today's women are a bunch of sluts. The overhwelming majority of them have had sex outside of marriage. The ones that have the bodies for it dress very provocatively. Sometimes, unfortunately, even the ones that don't have the bodies for it do that.

I have no doubt that by the standard that women were called "sluts" through most of the history of this country most of today's American women would be construed as sluts.

But, again, I'm not saying that's a bad thing.

I know you'll be shocked to read that I don't think any employer should be required to provide maternity leave. If an employer decides to grant maternity leave because it thinks it is worth it to maintain talented employoees then that's fine. But no way an employer should be forced to do it.

and I'd say that society's viewpoints on certain issues evolve throughout history, especially since the enlightenment, and that putting negative connotations on people based off the standards of another point in time is ridiculous, redundant, and unproductive.

For instance, the average person does less physical labor than the average person 50 years ago, but would I say the average person more lazy? No I'd say we do enough work to suit our environment and that due to a variety of factors we are less active. By the standards of the 1950s, yes we are more "lazy" but I wouldn't say it's a bad thing, it's just a natural phenomenon. By stapling the terms lazy as opposed to less active, I think there's a negative connotation stapled to the times as well, when in reality it's not a matter of good and bad, it just is.

Now, if one is inclined to think one setting is better than another, especially in the context of time periods, one can most certainly attach those negative connotations without regret, but I think it's kind of condescending and, instead of tolerant, it makes one resistant to change and in this case kind of misogynist

I don't think I put a negative connotation on people. In fact, I specifically said that I don't think it's a bad thing. But the definition of slut is a promiscuous woman and we live in a promiscuous culture now.

We do not. It's in the eye of the repressive beholder, St. Wronge.

I think you can gauge by people's reaction on here that the term "slut" has a negative connotation. When you use it, people get pissed, naturally.

I think people frequently don't like dealing with the truth. People want to be free to be promiscuous; and I am among them (well, not now...but there was a time). Many women want to be free to be promiscuous and they also want to have access to things that minimize the odds of "suffering" possible adverse or inconvenient consequences for the promiscuity. But then they don't want to be called a word that is defined as "a promiscuous woman."
