And Gil - shame on the environmentalists from actually trying to have MNDOT and WIDOT follow the FUCKING LAW, and protect a valuable resource.
Well, two things, Jon.
First, neither state has the resources to pay for this, not even in combination. It also underscores a great vicious-cycle Conkunist problem in which, though the federal govt has massive revenue raising powers, their desired cuts to states have pushed them to this. Then, as a result, Conks will go on and on, using this as an example of "frivolous" spending, neve3rmind the increased revenues projects such as this will realize. Again, Conks want cuts, but fail to consider the short, mid and long term consequences of such.
Second, the bridge is over the St. Croix River and is smack dab right in the middle of the St. Croix River National Scenic Waterway, a huge recreation resource for the nation, not to mention the source of electricity for much of the area. So, it's disappointing to see Gil DopeAddict besmirch people and agencies, govt and NGO, who work so hard to ensure that this jewel in the upper Midwest is not the Cuyahoga River of the north woods.
Conks.
In further regard to northerners paying for their own bridge, Cap'n Cat is proud to say that he supports any similar such efforts in the Southwest which accomplish the same admirable goals. Cap'n Cat would never say, "Hey, desert people, hands off the Colorado River".......much as he'd like to.
STX National Scenic Waterway:
The old bridge in question:
Where Cappy and D1B fish the STX, Prescott, WI, where it meets the Mississippi. Notice the brown water of the Mississippi running in from the west right before it all turns to the south. Gil, pretty good by the enviro-whackos protecting the STX, after all, eh?
