For crying out loud, Flag. #1 and #3 both happened in Sacramento, and #2 was in Orlando. If you're REALLY that deficient in geography....

According to Wikipedia, the Twinkies clinched the World Series vs. the Cards on October 25th.
Maybe that is why it was so loud?

1. Gator Bowl 12/28/79 North Carolina 17, Michigan 12
2. Braves vs. Reds in old Fulton County Stadium, date unknown. Pete Rose put the first pitch out of the park.
3. Cubs vs. Giants @ Wrigley, somewhere around '04. Wrigley was a cool experience, and I expected to see both Sosa and Bonds play but both were injured. Fun time anyway.

1. 2011 NIT Semi-Finals at Madison Square Garden. Washington State got absolutely destroyed by Wichita State in the game, but the whole trip and experience was just unbelievable. WSU flew my friend and I out for free and put us up for free in the Mariott Marquis for the week.

2. 2006 Gonzaga vs Washington State basketball. Year one of Tony Bennett at WSU, first sellout in Pullman in like 15 years, my first year in college, I stood in line for about 12 hours to get in. Zags were ranked 15th or so and we were 7-1 but no one really knew how good we were (ended up 26-8 with a 3 seed in the tournament after being predicted to finish 10th in the Pac-10). First and only time I've ever stormed the field/court in my entire life, of all the sports memories I have there are probably none more exciting than this one.

3. 2009 South Dakota State vs Montana. We were honestly considering leaving right before the Mariani kickoff so I could catch the second half of the Apple Cup, so glad we didn't.

1. Oregon vs Ohio State - 2009 Rose Bowl
We were happy to be in the Rose Bowl, just soaking in the entire experience of that weekend was incredible. Ducks scored to tie the game just as the sun was going down in Pasadena, it was beautiful. Terrell Pryor broke my heart an hour later.

2. Montana vs App State - 2000 Semifinals
It was 60 degrees, then snowing, then 60 degrees all in one game. I had to literally push off of the stranger in front of me to see over everyone as Jimmy Farris made "the catch" to send the Griz to the title game. There was so much pandemonium that we fell down, and by the time we all got back up the field had already been stormed and Adam Boomer was riding around an ATV with Monte on the back. That had to be one of the biggest parties I've ever seen - I almost feel like WGS was like the wild west in those days, maybe because I wasn't drinking yet. Mud everywhere, the last year of natural grass turf at WGS. Farris was on the crowd's shoulders. I was in heaven. Adrian Peterson broke my young heart a week later.

3. Oregon vs USC in Autzen - 2007
(Arguably) The loudest college football crowd ever recorded - 127 decibels. We made the drunk drip over the Wilammette footbridge to Autzen giving USC fans shit about losing Stanford, who was awful at the time. For some reason that October every game at Autzen was huge and it was around 65-70 degrees each Saturday in a week of awful rain. An interception to close the game sealed the deal, gold and green confetti in the air - back when beating a Pete Carroll coached USC team was a huge deal. Dennis Dixon's leg broke and my heart with it about three weeks later.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:
2010 BCS National Championship Game
Oregon beating #1 UCLA in basketball at Mac Court in 2007
Portland Trail Blazers vs Houston Rockets at a packed Rose Garden in 2008,their first foray back into the NBA playoffs
1997 Montana Class A State title game - Hamilton Broncs vs Havre Blue Ponies

got the dates wrong

it was SEPTEMBER 25th - and it was the final regular season HOME game. The Twins clinched a share of the Western Division title that day.

I was there as a Black Hawks fan. Remember the booze bottle flying over Eddie Belfours head late the 3rd. First of thousands of items to reach the ice that night. The players had been planning to take the ice after the game to say goodbye, but were afraid after the ice got trashed by litter. The equipment manager was fired and Modano was repremanded for being involved in a "We'll Miss You Minnesota" T-shirt that appeared outside prior to the game.

.......and beside Norm Green Sucks, I heard Secord Sucks chants, even though he had not been a Black Hawk for a few seasons.
We went in angry... and through the evening it ebbed and flowed... the "secord sucks" chant may have been the best moment of the night... there was an almost sentimental quality to it... but late in the game it took a dark turn... I remember the bitter disappointment that they didn't take the ice after the game was over...

I also remember we swiped the logo plates off the seats at the end of the rows near us... had one in my room until I graduated high school

(1) 1996 World Series Game #6 @ Historic Yankee Stadium. Yankees finish off the Braves, winning their fourth straight game in the series after losing the first two at home. Having sat through the Game 1 and 2 drubbings by the Braves at home, I could not believe I was watching the Yankees wrap it up in Game 6. Final: 3-2.

This game was a classic World Series cliffhanger pitting Greg Maddux at the peak of his career against the aging star, Jimmy Key. The Yankees roughed up Maddux for 3-runs in the bottom of the third. The key hit was a triple to deep right center of the ballpark by Yankee catcher Joe Girardi. Before the bottom of the 3rd, I had gone to the "Beers of the World" stand in the third tier behind home plate to get a sausage sandwich and a beer. I was walking along the aisle in the third tier behind home plate when Girardi lifted his blast to right center. Most of the ballpark held their breath to see if the speedy and gifted defender, CF Marquis Grissom, would get to the ball. But from my perch behind home plate in the third tier, I could tell from the trajectory of the ball that there was NO WAY any center fielder in baseball, Grissom included, was going to get to that ball.

The Braves got one back in the top of the fourth. Key battled through the fifth and into the sixth. He didn't have his best stuff but was averting the worst and managed to keep the Braves to one run. With one out in the sixth, with the Braves threatening, Joe Torre goes to the bullpen. He needs two outs in order to get the ball to Mariano Rivera to start the 7th, Everyone knows if we can get the ball to Rivera to start the 7th, the rest of the night is set: Rivera will pitch the 7th and 8th, and John Wetteland will come in for the 9th.

We watch anxiously as Grahame Lloyd and David Weathers get the Yankees out of the 6th without a run scoring. Rivera comes in and dominates the 7th and 8th. He was smoking and unhittable. I muse that Torre should let him take the 9th too!

Wetteland comes in for the 9th. He won the series MVP for saving all four wins, but in fact, he was shaky all series. He gives up a run to make the game 3-2. Runners are on second and third with two out when 2B Mark Lemke comes to the plate.

Lemke hits a foul pop toward the third base stands. From my seat down the right-field line, I can't tell if it is going to stay in play. Charles Hayes roams over but the ball is just out of his reach. Damn! Next pitch: Wetteland challenges Lemke again, and the result is identical. He lofts a ball foul down the third base line.

Then something happens which did not happen on the foul pop which immediately preceded it. A wave of blue flash bulbs is set off in the seats down the third-base line. I immediately realize that the fans with the best view of the play KNOW the ball is in play. It was a surreal moment: The kind of moment that can only happen if you are at the ball park. The flash bulbs tell me that the Yankees are about to win the World Series.

It was perhaps the best baseball game I've ever seen in person. A great struggle between two great teams playing baseball the way it was meant to be played.

(2) 2001 World Series, Game #4. With two outs in the 9th, and the Diamondbacks holding a two-run lead, Tino Martinez matter-of-factly drills a two-run homer to deep right-center field. It felt like the stadium was about to come down. Jeter wins it with an opposite field homer in extra innings. This game was a gift to NY after 9/11. It was the first time there was a prevailing sense of joy in New York since the 9/11 attacks.

(3) 1993 BC at Notre Dame -- Undefeated ND had just beaten Florida State to take over the No. 1 ranking in the nation and was looking to wrap up the last game of the season, and then go to a bowl to claim the national title. But down 21 points in the fourth quarter, the Irish rally for 22 points and take the lead with just over a minute to play. Glen Foley drives the Eagles down to the ND 25 and then, on the last play of the game, BC kicker David Gordon barely gets the ball over the goal post on his 42-yard FG, essentially ending ND's national title hopes. The Irish have not won a national title since then.

1. EWU vs. Villanova, 2010 FCS Semifinals - ESPN2 under the lights against defending champs on the red turf, VU's Babarro ran back the opening kick, then EWU opened up a can of whoopass. (This would of course be replaced by the NC game vs Delaware, had I been able to afford the trip  )

2. EWU vs. Montana, 2010 - First game on the red turf, hadn't won in Cheney against the Griz in 20 years, spotted them a 14 point lead, and then an epic game ensued, topped off by Renard Williams scoop and score TD and storming the field... twice.

3. Seahawks vs. NY Giants, 2005 - First NFL game, 12th man caused an NFL record 12 false starts by the Giants. Season ended with the refs steelering away the SB from us. :ohno:

Honorable mention:

- Seahawks vs. SF Niners, 2010 - First regular season game in the Pete Carroll era, went with 3 friends, one of whom is a die hard Niner fan. We all painted up for the game. Nothing better than watching us give the Niners a beat down. 31-6!

-EWU @ Montana, 2005 - First time visiting the famed WA-Grizzly stadium, watched Payton Winner Erik Meyer shred the Griz for 400 yards or so in a 34-20 beating. Wasted the whole trip seems like.

-EWU vs. NDSU, 2010 - Douchebag fanbase coming all the way to Cheney to watch their team get torched by Taiwan Jones after talking shit about how they would shut him down. Back to back kickoff return TDs to start the 2nd half, blizzard, "The Drive," TD on first play of OT, Bill Fette.

-Spokane Shock vs. Tampa Bay, 2010 AFL Championship - First year in the AFL, Shock take the title.
