Savannah State drops UNI for Florida State

Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida State officials announced Wednesday that Savannah State will replace West Virginia on the 2012 home schedule. The Seminoles were contracted to play the Mountaineers on September 8th in Tallahassee, but West Virginia notified FSU on February 3 that they would not honor the commitment leaving Florida State with little time and few options to replace the home game.

“West Virginia’s announcement at the 11th hour really put us in a very difficult position,” said FSU Director of Athletics Randy Spetman. “We contacted every BCS school that had an opening in hopes of replacing WVU with a BCS opponent, but none of those few schools could make it work either because of our dates or theirs. It is important for our fans to realize that the schools we contacted during the search did not pass on the 2012 game out of concern for the competition, but because of challenges they faced with schedule changes this late in the year.
Ouch.

Side note: IIRC, SSU will be the first HBCU that Florida State has ever played...I wonder how FAMU feels about this.
MEAC, last one out turn off the lights.

The questions we MEAC'ers are wondering are:

A) what the buyout amount for the UNI game

B) whether Florida State is paying it for SSU or is it coming out of SSU's payout from this game ($450k)

Maybe we should throw a little tantrum like a little bitch, as dback did when UNI allowed Wisconsin to buy out UNI's game at SUU.

Agreed.

I'll start a FUCK YOU thread in honor of that.

Oh did some looking...

The following FCS teams have an open date Sept 8th with an incomplete schedule (according to FCSFANS.com schedule sheet)

Northern Colorado (4 home games and 1 open date) - already have series set up for the coming years
Howard - MEAC (6 home dates, 2 dates open)
North Carolina A&T - MEAC (2 open dates, 5 home dates)
Sacred Heart - NEC (2 open dates, 4 home dates)
SEMO - OVC (2 open dates, 4 home dates, at SIU the next
Tennessee Tech - OVC (1 open date, 5 home dates)

That's it folks....Now, there are a number of schools with D2's or FBS games that week and that could all change.

It looks like Tennesse Tech may be out best bet unless we want to pay for a MEAC school to come out here...which we already had with Savannah State....so...

Good point seeing as how they are in the same city.I do remember Miami(Fla) playing Florida A&M once or twice.
