When Cap'n and I were altar boys, we'd occassionaly had to do the 7:00 am Ash Wednesday mass at St. Patricks. It sucked getting up that early. Our dad would load us up in his 64 Chevy SS and drop us off at like 6am on his way to work and we just hung out at the chruch till mass.

This left us much time for mischief and mayhem. My ticket to hell was secured by 3rd grade when I raided the holy tabernacklethinggy behind the alter for communion wafers. We wanted the big ones, like the priest ate, goddammit. It didn't take us long to find the sacramental wine. I stole many bottles and sold em to the 6th graders for $5 a pop and much street cred. They eventually caught on and signed up to be altar boys so they could steal the shit themselves.

Great childhood memories as a catholic. I'm sure Cap'n would admit, besides college, they were some of the best years of our lives. I loved St. Patricks school, just hated the church and jesus bullshit.

So you were able to make up your mind to leave the church and I was able to make up my mind to return to the church. I became a holiday Catholic while I was at college and for a few years after. Then I decided to start going again and don't regret a day.
