Started 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus by Charles Mann. Liking it so far. It's critical of some myths about Native American society before Columbus (population was significantly greater than most believe and the societies were not all in harmony with nature but many shaped it to their purposes) and about why Europeans were able to defeat native tribes (it wasn't so much due to superior technology, guns & steel, but disease and by taking advantage of internal rivalries).
Being wrong about a topic is called post partisanism - kalm

MAQA - putting the Q into qrazy qanon qult qonspiracy theories since 2015.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Thank you for your attention to this matter - UNI88

The Obama Reacharound: a Liberal's Lament, by Jack Mehoff. Gripping saga of how Barry has disappointed damn near everyone on the left at some point or another.

This website is really "rubbing off" on you, Ivy. You used to be an "upstanding" gentlemen, but you're really "pulling out" the potty humor around here lately. It's very unbecoming of a Harvard Law product. "Get ahold of yourself" and start acting accordingly.

I would wager that i have forgotten more of the history of 'the late united states' than you or any 15 other grad school bleeding gashes have ever known. I would be pleased to debate you upon any subject.

Picked up Homer's The Iliad and The Odyssey, again. Put it down several months ago because reading it was like reading one of St. Wronge's posts - on and on and on and on about trivial ****.....or the Bible.
A typical passage, "...for thine art most strong, Zeus, son of Cronus, father of Hera, who held in her hands the great scepter of Menalaus and forged the divide between Achimanea and Ilius so they had to climb the formidable hills of Athenon until the hosts became much drenched in the sweat of their effort unto the enemy which lies beyond the River Asubius in Samarta, east of Cantillon where reigns the serpent of nations, Niconila, who besieged the tents at Sparta and did cause harm to the women and children of Piama who descended from Apollo, prince of the central lands and fleet of foot is he who smote the legions at Crete, children of Athene, daughters and sons of Aphrodite, whose beauty is only matched by her cunning in the service of the gods of heaven..."

****. :ohno:

Anyway, gave it another chance and I'm running with it. Getting a lot of sleep, though.

:suspicious:
The thought of Hera holding Menelaus' scepter in her hands sort of gives me a partial.

That's literary gold, 2000 years ago, that.

I am currently reading "Empire of the Summer Moon" (Quanah Parker and the rise and fall of the Comanches; the most powerful Indian tribe in American history) by SC Gwynne.

I am literally reading this book for the 4th time in 2 months, it is that good.

I took a few courses on slavery. I had a paper published entitled, "American Slavery: How and Why Hollywood Gets It Wrong". It's amazing at how history has been hosed by "the establishment" and the academics who don't want to say anything bad about America. That sort of patriotism is dangerous. I began my MA in History but had to quit to take care of my family. If I was getting my MBA for free, I'd be going back ASAP to complete that course. I still plan on it. Good Luck.

Thanks, I'm really enjoying it. I like the format of graduate courses (seminar) rather than under-grad (lecture). I tend to learn more about that way.

God, The Iliad is painful to read! What Homer says in a 3000 word paragraph about a battle can be condensed into something like this:

"The Achaeans beat the Trojans in one day."

No need for a refund! Who want's to read it next?

The Somme is just cut and paste of letters with a couple of sentences joining one letter to the next.

I'm going to read it again on October 8th.

Started reading Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. Read about 2 chapters and didn't want to finish. Just horrible writing. I'm really disappointed because the story lines would be great to learn about. Maybe I'll try to finish it some other time.
