I dunno. We're behind Maryland, the one team that handled us on their court. You never got the feeling we really had a chance to win that game, but we weren't embarrassed either. It's hard to find any logical conflict in regard to Delaware in the poll right now.89Hen wrote:bluehenbillk wrote:This week's AP poll is out - UD up to #12.That might be a tad too high.

Put another way, who below them would be favored in a neutral court (e.g., NCAA tournament) match-up? #15 Purdue and #17 Georgetown are both athletic but inconsistent with multiple losses, Georgetown just beat #13 Rutgers who beat #14 Louisville, and Penn State beat #16 Nebraska by 20 points.93henfan wrote:I dunno. WIth any luck a 2-loss Delaware (assuming someone finds a chink in their armor) gets put into a 3-6 bracket with #10 Green Bay (who should finish undefeated) for the mid-majors championship in the 2nd round, before getting a match-up against a top 8 team. And actually, that 2nd loss might not be a bad thing if it keeps them away from Baylor et.al. until the Elite 8...

I guess there's just a big disparity between the top teams and the 10-15 teams, moreso than in mens bball. Is there anyone besides Baylor, Notre Dame, Connecticut, Stanford or Duke that has a legit shot at the NC?

Don't know if I'd include Duke in there. Saw them got mopped on their homecourt by UConn last night - not even close.89Hen wrote:I guess there's just a big disparity between the top teams and the 10-15 teams, moreso than in mens bball. UD now 21-1, 12-0 in the CAA. With losses by Ohio St, Green Bay & Tennessee (#'s 9, 10 & 11) last night, with a win over Georgia State on Sunday look for the Hens to crack the top 10 on Monday/Tuesday next week!!!

UD cracked the Top 10 - now ranked #10 in the nation by AP. Actually got screwed & should be ahead of Ohio St at #9 but not going to complain.

Re: The Official Delaware Women's Basketball Thread
Ohio State beat #19 Purdue yesterday so I can see them moving up to #9 - they still have games against #21 Penn State(!) and #15 Nebraska, plus a Minnesota team that beat them 2 weeks ago, so they'll be hard pressed not to lose again. Also, MD still has another date with Duke, so win (which would strengthen the "quality" of Delaware's only loss) or lose if Delaware wins out it'll be tough to keep them out of the top 10 and a 3 seed (if not the 2 seed).bluehenbillk wrote:UD cracked the Top 10 - now ranked #10 in the nation by AP. Today's ESPN/USA Today Poll has UD ranked #9!!
Also yesterday UD was selected as a 1st & 2nd round host for the 2013 NCAA Women's Tourney. UD has their entire starting lineup coming back next year.

Does this mean I'll be forced to buy season tix for the football team (and the men's basketball team) in order to get tix for the NCAA tourney games?bluehenbillk wrote:Today's ESPN/USA Today Poll has UD ranked #9!!

Broke the 2,000 point mark last night - in 8 fewer games than the all-time NCAA leading scorer.

UD survives a scare from Drexel, 40-39; wins the CAA regular season.
EDD with the game-winner, after being cold the whole game.

Associated Press
PHILADELPHIA -- Elena Delle Donne's leaner from the wing with 2 seconds left lifted No. 10 Delaware to a thrilling 40-39 victory over Drexel on Sunday and clinched the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title.
The Blue Hens (24-1, 15-0), who won their only previous CAA title in 2004-05, have 14 straight victories since their lone loss of the season to then-No. 5 Maryland.
Trailing 39-38 with 16 seconds left, the nation's leading scorer caught the ball at the top of the key and dribbled to the right wing. She faked out the three people guarding her and leaned in to hit the 15-footer, pumping her fist as it swished through the net.
Kelly Mershon's 35-footer at the buzzer fell short.
Delle Donne finished with 12 points -- well below her 28.8 average. She also had 14 rebounds, but made only 4 of her 19 shots.

So what kind of a seed do you think you'll get in the NCAA Tournament with a CAA Tournament win or, oops, in the unlikely event of an upset?

Anything less than a 3 would be an insult, but a 3 is what it probably should be.TheDancinMonarch wrote:So what kind of a seed do you think you'll get in the NCAA Tournament with a CAA Tournament win or, oops, in the unlikely event of an upset?

Yep, if UD wins out a 3 seed is warranted. It'd be nice to avoid playing a 1 for as long as possible.
