Question for Donks: When Does Shit Become Obama's Fault?

8 months into his first term, the twin towers went down and donks (then on AGS) absolutely flamesprayed Bush and absolved Clinton of any responsibility for what happened. Yet here we are, 36 months---three FULL YEARS into Obama's first term and Donks ROUTINELY claim that Obama isn't responsible for what's happening and he's "just trying to fix Bush's ****".

At what point, in your minds, does stuff that's impacting this country become Obama's fault?

Why do I get the feeling that he's considering trying to get the presidential term limit repealed? Can you imagine ANOTHER eight years of this trash, all the while blaming his incompetency on Bush?

I have always said...including on AGS many years ago...that people underestimate the impact of a President upon the economy. I think the economy has ups and downs and there's a limit to what the Presidident can do about it. I don't think the downturn of 2008 was President Bush's "fault." I don't think the expansion of the 1990s was "caused" by Bill Clinton. I don't think the recovery of the 80s was "caused" by Ronald Reagan or that the previous malaise was "caused" by Jimmy Carter. And I don't think the mild recession of the late 90s was "caused" by George Bush.

I have always said that one of the tragedies of American politics is that people vote based on what the economy is doing as though whoever the President is at the time is the "cause" of whether it is good or bad at that particular time. I think people ought to vote on the basis of consideration of the long term direction of the country.

On Obama: When he was elected I wrote on AGS that I thought he was in good shape because there was an economimc crisis and things would get better regardless of who was President during the term he was going to occupy. And he would get credit for that. It's taken a while but I think it's going to happen. I think we are starting to go into an up cycle that has little if anything to do with Obama but he will get credit for it and it will help him win re-election.

Good post. Most people don't realize that policies and actions by an administration might not take effect and/or realized until after that President has left the White House.
