It was 1994 (not, let's say, 2004) and she -- a nun in Calcutta -- accepted the representation from Fr. Hardon that Fr. The real issue here is Fr. Hardon, since he is a candidate for canonization. It's apparent that he was involved in what was a plainly inadequate investigation. While I have no way of knowing whether he was ill advised or ill motivated himself, this issue should close the book on any further discussion on whether to canonize him.
Of course, Fr. Hardon isn't even worth a headline. Not even active, practicing Catholics know who he is. This story is getting distorted because of Mother Teresa's very remote involvement.
