I wanna talk about what teams return. Who returns a lot? Who will be the preseason top 5? NDSU has 14 starters back and I read that SHSU has 17 starters back. I think Montana State returns a lot. I expect the CAA to have an elite team next year.

Top teams in the MVFC will be NDSU, YSU, ILSU, and as always UNI will be up there, but likely not a title contender.ming01 wrote:I wanna talk about what teams return. Who returns a lot? Re: 2012
SHSU has to get consideration - this was a young Kats team.
YSU was young this year - and gave a lot of good games (and beat the national champs)
ISU-Blue will have Shakir Bell as a Senior... that's scary.
those are my first blush takes

I agree. NDSU, ILSU, YSU could be the new power elite MVFC.guinzone wrote:Top teams in the MVFC will be NDSU, YSU, ILSU, and as always UNI will be up there, but likely not a title contender.ming01 wrote:I wanna talk about what teams return. Re: 2012
I agree. YSU loses a few guys on the DL, but return almost the entire offense and the rest of the defense. Our despicable safety-corner position will actually have depth with 4 guys coming off of medical redshirts returning at the CB position, so we will have 6 guys with starting experience at CB and some quality depth with JUCO help at safety.JBB wrote:I agree. Pretty good list. I'm not sure about Montana (at least in the beginning), what with 9/11 defensive starters being lost to graduation. Offensively, however, we should be damned near unstoppable.

Biggest question for EWU is obviously QB. But we've hasd to replace All-American Qb's before. I'm sure there's someone waiting in the wings. Rest of the team was pretty young this season so I think we'll be pretty solid, barring 2011-esque injuries. Figure out the Qb situation, and we'll be in the mix for the Big Sky. My favorite for the Big Sky next season is MSU. Montana loses a lot and while PSU appears to be on the up and up, like EWU, they have to replace their QB. Poly should also be in the mix.

Too early to call the CAA. Still a lot of transfers to come. I'm assuming URI will be cutting a couple more schollies in anticipation of joining the NEC in 2013 and obviously UMass is gone and Georgia State is in. It wouldn't be hard to imagine the standings will look very similar to this year.

Re: 2012
NDSU is the team to beat. YSU and ILSU are definitely promising but people have been talking for years about ILSU finally breaking through to be a top Valley team but they always find ways to stub their toes and finish in the upper middle of the pack. So while I don't doubt they have the ability to do it, they need to prove it on the field before I predict they finish in the top tier. YSU has been in a similar position but for a shorter period of time and they have a much better long-term tradition of success so I think they're a much safer pick for a high finish. UNI is definitely likely to be down from 2011 but they always find a way to be in contention for a playoff berth even if they don't get it. The 2 BCS games will hurt but I think they'll hang around the edges of the Valley race and upset a few apple carts along the way. I think INSU will end up being more of a factor than ILSU, they're a program on the rise without all the baggage of missed expectations to weigh them down. I would love to see all 5 teams have strong years and make the playoffs!guinzone wrote:Top teams in the MVFC will be NDSU, YSU, ILSU, and as always UNI will be up there, but likely not a title contender.ming01 wrote:I wanna talk about what teams return. Re: 2012
At least they're consistent. You can also count on WIU to be down for a number of years and picked near the bottom of the conference and then to come out of nowhere and have a winning season. The next year people always seem to predict big things for them based on their success the prior year and they almost inevitably fall on their face and finish near the bottom of the conference again.AZGrizFan wrote:ILSU sounds like the MVFC's version of Sacramento State.UNI88 wrote: people have been talking for years about ILSU finally breaking through to be a top Valley team but they always find ways to stub their toes and finish in the upper middle of the pack. The big question mark for me is SIU. Are they going to turn it around and return to contention or will this be the beginning of the end for Lennon?

Re: 2012
The CAA will be a crapshoot.
You can probably say GSU, URI & 'Nova & UR will be non-factors but then everyone else is in play:
Towson - were they a one year hit or can they sustain?
ODU - can their offense continue the pace & can their defense keep up?
UNH - who is the new QB & how much does their offense drop?
Maine - some key graduation losses - do they stay near the top or go back to being Maine?
JMU - will their offense improve next year & can their QB put down the pipe?
UD - how good will their new QB be & new faces on the OL?
W&M - probably the most fringe of these 7 - qb issues and grimes is gone
Nobody thought TU & ODU would be in the top half of the league in '11 so that's all you need to know about guessing '12

Towson returns 18 starters.
On offense, they lose RT and FB. On defense, they lose a DT and SS.
Rumors swirling about several key transfers, but who knows until they start Spring semester.
Soph QB Enders showed up in August to claim the starting role from Athens, a solid offseason learning the playbook will help him improve.
And some kid named West has three more years of eligibility.

Re: 2012
GSU returns 17 starters. We lose our QB, but I actually think that is a good thing. We will put a QB out there next year that can take it to the house on every snap, resembling GSU teams of the past. Biggest holes to fill are DB and the kicking game.
Re: 2012
EWU is gonna be stacked. Everyone will point to the departure of BLM but the rest of the team is solid and the experienced WRs (some of the best in the nation - even better than some FBS teams) will help bail out a less experienced QB. Considering they almost made the playoffs in some positions relying on second stringers thrown in at a moments notice and its hard not to be excited.
