California wasting tax dollars again

When was the last time state tax dollars went toward telling you not to do something?

Ads against drunk driving, certainly. Perhaps ads against smoking cigarettes.

But now, California is embarking on a campaign to persuade its citizens not to change their oil so much.

And that, says California's Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery, wastes oil that could potentially have a far longer life.

According to a story in the Los Angeles Times, the department has launched an ad campaign to encourage owners to be aware of the recommended oil-change interval for their car.

"Brown Budget Sends ‘Ransom Note’ to California Voters on Taxes
January 06, 2012, 9:09 PM EST

Jan. 6 (Bloomberg) -- California Governor Jerry Brown proposed a budget that would lop off the equivalent of three weeks from the public school year if voters reject his proposal for $7 billion in temporary tax increases.

The $92.6 billion spending plan Brown unveiled yesterday for the year that starts in July boosts spending by 7 percent from the current year, even though the state faces a $9.2 billion deficit. The increase is to be financed through economic growth, higher income taxes on those making at least $250,000 a year and expanded sales levies.............."

Sounds like a great campaign that helps everyone in the long run - more states should do the same - unless you like wasting money/resources.

Somehow I knew you would be all for this.

You're a dipshit, Jon.

It's not government's role to tell people HOW to live their lives. PERIOD.

We've discussed this before...and if you really want to go there, I'll bring up the HIV infection rates by sexual preference and how the government should be regulating our bedroom activity.

I wrote about this a few years ago...the year before Gray Davis was recalled as governor, California State agencies spent ~$270 million on public "education" advertising promoting anti-global warming, boating safety, dietary, seat belt awareness, energy conservation, etc... That number has grown every year, but after the bloggers got wind of it (think it was Chron Watch), the state agencies started hiding the expenditures. In CA, with our leftist/socialist leftislature at the helm, compounded by the media outlets who refuse to bite the hand that feeds them, the expenditures have increased. So far, the new year has brought a flood of water conversation "public education" advertising. (This, despite CA's imposition of metered water on ALL OF CALIFORNIA, and double digit rate increases virtually every year for the past 5 years. )

It's a cluster-fuck of government waste and the only beneficiaries are the ad agencies/media outlets, and the Big Government socialists who are predisposed to controlling everything they purvey.
