GOP Candidate selector quiz

Post by ASUG8 »

Just for kicks I wanted to see where I stand with the current crop of candidates given a canned group of questions on fiscal and social issues. Give it a shot and post up who you're most aligned with.

Ideal Theoretical Candidate (100%)
2. Ron Paul* (84%)
3. Rick Santorum* (75%)
4. Newt Gingrich* (74%)
5. Mitt Romney* (72%)
6. Wayne Allyn Root (67%)
7. Michele Bachmann (63%)
8. Mike Pence (60%)
9. Rick Perry* (58%)
10. Eric Cantor (58%)

I am not surprised as I said elsewhere, I am a little "l" libertarian. I am assuming some of the questions I answered actually skew the results somewhat. Even though you can weight the importance. There were few questions about the economy which is typically my main issue. More questions about social issues, which while important, I don't place at the top of the list.

For example, yes I think we should legalize pot. but I ain't going to vote for Paul simply because he is the only candidate that agrees with me.

Whatever happened to naunce in politics?
Instead, we're left with Yes, No and......Neither.

BTW, selecting neither all the way through and you get Gary Johnson.

Re: GOP Candidate selector quiz

Post by BDKJMU »

So many of these questions are inadequate. 8 of them I could have gone with Neither because the choices sucked or were horribly worded. But I only went with Neither on 2.

#2: Choice #2: "Would embrace the philosophy that any increase of any taxes of any income strata hurts the economy. Would tend to favor the anti-tax positions of the National Taxpayers Union."

That's NOT what the NTU's platform is. NTU supports a Taxpayer Bill of Rights part of which states that increases in overall tax revenue be tied to inflation and population increases unless larger increases are approved by referendum. The question mentions nothing of NTU supporting a fair (national sales) or flat tax, nothing of supporting a Balanced Budget Amendment, nothing of reforming the IRS.

#5What would be your ideal candidate's position on BALANCING CIVIL LIBERTIES & SECURITY?
Would lean toward preserving civil liberties even though it might risk our security.
Would lean toward preserving our security even though it might risk our civil liberties, for example advocating an expansion of the PATRIOT ACT.

What about keeping the Patriot Act mostly intact, with a few tweaks. Not expanding it, but not gutting it either. What do they mean by "expansion" In scope, duration? Inadequate choices, so I chose Neither.

#7. What would be your ideal candidate's position on the MINIMUM WAGE?
Would have a history of supporting increases in the minimum wage.
Would have a history of opposing increases in the minimum wage.

What minimum wage? Federal? State? Local?

#8. What would be your ideal candidate's position on SOCIAL SECURITY?
Would keep it a governmental program, a non-private entity, possibly adjusting the earnings ceiling and/or the retirement age, etc.
Would consider other options, including and especially privatization.

If they'd given raising retirement age, tying benefit increases to inflation as opposed to wage growth (which avg about 1% a yr greater than inflation) I would have gone with that. I didn't want to choose neither as would go with half of answer one, retirement age. Would have been ok with answer 2 if took out the word "especially". The choices sucked.

#10. What would be your ideal candidate's position on EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH?
Would support federal expansion of embryonic stem cell research.
Would oppose federal expansion of embryonic stem cell research.

I oppose FEDERAL expansion of stem cell research, but has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with our govt is broke. I DON'T oppose private expansion. I chose choice #2, but the choices were inadequate.

#11. What would be your ideal candidate's position on ABORTION?
Would support the pro-choice positions of organizations like NARAL.
Would support the pro-life positions of organizations like National Right to Life Committee.

I chose Neither. I'm for overturning Roe v Wade, but has nothing to do with religion. Has to do with the part in the constitution that says those powers not expressly granted to the fed govt should be reserved for the states.NARAL is one extreme, NRLC is another. They didn't give a choice for supporting parental consent (as with any medical procedure for a minor), banning partial birth except when mother's life at risk, and no govt funding (as with any other non necessary med procedure), and otherwise leaving it up to the states. Again the choices sucked.

#18. What would be your ideal candidate's position on GAY & LESBIAN ISSUES?
Would oppose both marriage and civil unions for same sex couples.
Would support marriage for same sex couples.
Would support civil unions for same sex couples.

Where's the choice for simply leaving it up to the states?

A # of obscure Republicans, but no Paul Ryan or Chris Christie :? This test sucked. Being an election yr, I'm sure someone will come out with a better one.

Christie is currently too fat to be elected to POTUS. Christie's weight shouldn't matter, but unfortunately I think it does. He's got about 3 1/2 years to lose about 80-100 lbs or so to get down to candidate weight. Someone needs to hire him a top notch trainer and dietician.

Ryan on the other hand is a good looking guy (no homo I'm not gay). That will help with the chick vote. And his wife from what I've heard is pretty hot.
