Re: CAA Schedule released by league
So far, it looks like Georgia State will indeed just inherit UMass's conference schedule. Richmond, ODU and URI's games with GSU are home/away flips with last season's UMass games. UMass didn't play Towson last season, and neither will GSU, which makes sense if they're just going to flip home/away games from last season. The clincher will be if GSU plays UNH on the road and Maine at home. That would have been the case on UMass's schedule.

ODU has a very favorable schedule. No back-to-back road games. Nothing north of Towson. One air charter game in Atlanta. Good spot for the bye week. Can't complain about this one.BDKJMU wrote:Was released by the league office to the ADs yesterday according to someone on the JMU board. Some of the CAA schools have released theirs. You playing any FBS? Had we had any of your OOC instead of Navy, we'd have been a playoff team.CAA Flagship wrote:You playing West Chester this year?93henfan wrote:

I admit your scheduling is better. Loading up on FCS creampuffs is the way to go.

Call it wishful thinking, but since the conference part of the schedule is done & UD hasn't released it yet, which they normally do pretty quickly there is speculation that they may be looking to dump WCUPA a year early after that being a good part of the reason 2011 wasn't a playoff year.CAA Flagship wrote: You playing West Chester this year?
Again purely speculation.

11/17 Towson
Also, word on the street is Georgia State will end their season on 11/10 AT Maine. Might throw a wrench into the theory that they are inheriting UMass' schedule.

Won't make much of a difference unless replaced it with a I-A. If UD replaced WCU with a patsy I-AA would still likely need to get to 8-3 to get in. Same with ODU.bluehenbillk wrote:Call it wishful thinking, but since the conference part of the schedule is done & UD hasn't released it yet, which they normally do pretty quickly there is speculation that they may be looking to dump WCUPA a year early after that being a good part of the reason 2011 wasn't a playoff year.CAA Flagship wrote: You playing West Chester this year?

7-4/4-4 with no I-A on the schedule isn't much different than 6-5/4-4 with a I-A. 7-4 with, no I-A game, with 4 I-AA losses from one of power conferences you ain't likely getting in. Just ask Ill State this yr.
Where you really screw yourself is if you schedule a I-A AND a Div II like UD and W&M did last season. Then you can get left out with only 3 I-AA losses.

Guess we might as well cancel the 2012 CS Poll, declare ODU the number 1 seed, and give them a ticket to Frisco.

Nonsense - the extra DI game makes all the difference - look at Maine getting in over W&M a few years ago on the strength of a win over Iona. I've yet to see a playoff eligible UD, in a 16 team playoff or more, not make the playoffs. If UD had replaced West Chester with a patsy FCS win this year they would've been in the playoffs. Next year would be the same at 7-4 assuming they dump West Chester, as they should.BDKJMU wrote:Won't make much of a difference unless replaced it with a I-A. I know right, Duquesne the NEC co-champ who was 9-2, Hampton was 7-4 and Campbell was 6-5. Their combined record 22-11. The best is they're all home games except one is 14 miles away.93henfan wrote:Don't overlook that daunting trifecta of Duquesne, Hampton, and Campbell at the beginning of the year! Re: CAA Schedule released by league
If you don't think there's any diffrerence between a 7-4 CAA team with 4 I-AA losses vs a 7-4 CAA with 3 I-AA losses you're kidding yourself. A (7 div 1 win) 7-4/4-4 wih no I-A will be behind all the other (7 div 1 win) 7-4/5-3 with a I-A from the power conferences. There has never been a CAA team, or any team period, that has gotten an At Large at 7-4 that didn't have a I-A on the schedule. As far as Maine making the playoffs in 08' they were 8-3 vs I-AA. If UD had replaced WCU with a patsy I-AA this year sure would have gotten in the playoffs. But would have had only 3 I-AA losses + IA loss to Navy. Next year would not be the same because a 7-4 UD would have 4 I-AA losses.GannonFan wrote:Nonsense - the extra DI game makes all the difference - look at Maine getting in over W&M a few years ago on the strength of a win over Iona. Not really. ODU was 9-2 and didn't get a first round bye and had a second round game at Georgia Southern. Both ODU and UD need to do a better job of scheduling. UD needs to drop West Chester, ODU needs at least 1 tough OOC game.93henfan wrote:You playing any FBS? Re: CAA Schedule released by league
Meh, we are still cleaning up from our initial/early agreements with Campbell and Hampton. We have one more game with Campbell but that will be replaced with Norfolk St, which may be only a slight improvement. But we will pick up the extra OOC game in 2013 so there are still opportunities to beef up the schedule.BlueHen86 wrote:Not really. In my mind, the first goal is to get to 7 D-1 wins no matter what. As proven with UD this year, 6 wins is automatic death.
ODU suffered from a couple of things this season (other than a weak defense). First was reputation. If the league picks us 10th, what will the rest of the country think of us? The early CAA loss (UD) didn't help either. Had the CAA wins and losses come at different times, we may have gotten that first round bye. Also, the CAA was not as strong this year as previous years, and on top of that, we didn't play two of the top teams in Maine and New Hampshire. That's just bad luck. But it all worked out in the end. We played NSU at home in front of a sellout crowd and made money on the game. GSU proved where we need to improve, but at the same time, the program got a lot of respect that will certainly be reflected is a much better position in the polls to start the next season.

I'd like to see a more exciting OOC schedule. This is boring. We don't need 3 warmup games to get ready for the conference schedule.

Really? We don't need style points for pollsters to put us in the top 2. We simply need wins to get in the top 10. It's all about making the playoffs.Sirloinburger wrote:I'd like to see a more exciting OOC schedule. This is boring. We don't need 3 warmup games to get ready for the conference schedule.

Re: CAA Schedule released by league
Completely agree, if we played in a lesser conference I would say lets schedule BCS opponents and the Montana's, Georgia Southern's, Sam Houstons' and North Dakota State's but ODU plays in a conference that's gonna have 4-5 teams ranked in the top 25 every year. ODU doesn't need 3 additional games to impress the selection committee when they already play 8 games in conference that will do that.CAA Flagship wrote:Really? We don't need style points for pollsters to put us in the top 2. We simply need wins to get in the top 10. I'm learning to just tune out SB now because it seems like every post he writes its about how ODU NEEDS to move up to SEC status RIGHT AWAY.

You guys will be top ten in the preseason I think. Certainly top fifteen.CAA Flagship wrote:Really? We don't need style points for pollsters to put us in the top 2. It's about SOS not style points. we'll get into the playoffs, it's getting a better seed. If we want to take trips to ND or Montana go ahead and schedule cream puffs.CAA Flagship wrote:Really? lol, . So the selection committee is going to be impressed with those 3 OOC oppponents. You make me laugh. When did you become an expert at FCS football. You read what everyone else posts and adopt those opinions. What post did I say SEC? Dr. Selig is exploring a move to FBS. It's not me that's piloting the ship. You're an ODU graduate? I thought our graduates want to become more than just average. Do you want to stay in the same position all your life or do you want to move up? ODU is moving up.
