Maine's run defense stats are middling (though they did shut down App State), but they should do a better job against the option than ODU did. The Eagles' pass defense is also vulnerable, so an upset is possible. However, the area Georgia Southern really kicks Maine's ass is special teams. I think that, and the home field, will give the game to GSU.
Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:
I predict a much better game for the Eagle defense while our offense will probably come down closer to around 500 yards than 700.
I've also got at least 3 blocked Field goals/Xps between the two of us.
I think being at home is going to make all the difference. If this was in Maine I'd be much more concerned but good luck beating GSU in Paulson in the playoffs.
Eagles Win 38-30
6 National Championships and counting. How many you got?
From some of the other stuff I've read on here (sorry noob here) some of yall think that the Eagles have this Big 12 style defense that relies on its offense to keep the ball and the time of possession. Prepare for a rude awakening Saturday. This is one hell of a d line and LB corp and has had when it needed to, played up to and beyond the level of other teams. If Maine wants to rely on it's run game for balance that's just going to play into GSU's hands

42 points doesn't sound much like a slow down to me, and I wouldn't count on Maine scoring 45. The GSU D isn't nearly as bad as it looked against ODU. I don't think the Bears will score more than 30. The GSU offense is running at a different level since the changes on the OL and B-back positions were made just before the Wofford game. Inserting Swope, who weighs around 220 and hits the hole very quickly has changed the dynamic of the B-back position for the Eagles. Moving Maxwell (294 lb) to C instead of Mann (268 lb) has really opening up the dive phase of the option. And when that phase is making yards, the GSU offense runs at a very high level.

...and I doubt any of the kids on your team were even born then. Unless you're going to drop those old geezers in a time machine, it doesn't mean a damn thing today.
