Because Quick is a better wide receiver?
The 2011 Payton Award goes to the best offensive player in the 2011 season. It doesn't go to the most talented player. It comes down to who had the best season and Quick did not have a good enough season to be earning votes ahead of Edwards. Edwards 19 TD's in 11 games ranks fifth all-time for single season results for FCS wide receivers. Edwards had 31 more receptions, 195 more yards, and 8 more touchdowns.

That's a good catch. But, I'm not sure what that proves?

You think Quick hasn't made similar catches? :? :25 in this video:

That Quick isn't any more talented than Edwards. But Edwards has substantially better numbers this year.

Oh. You guys are just stat geeks. In that case... you are right.

If y'all just care about numbers, though... y'all should also be clamoring for Zach Lewis and other stat machines that noone has heard of or no one cares about to be added to the list.

Numbers don't tell the whole story. Sometimes you have to watch players play and use your own intuition to make a call who is better. Edwards has better stats, sure. He also plays in an offense that throws the football almost exclusively. Fuck, BLM threw the ball almost 70 times in ONE game this year. That's insane. A retarded monkey would have a decent chance catching a few balls for a team throwing it around that much. And, if Quick were in y'all's offense... not only would you have an EWU receiver on the list... he would win the damn thing.

Is he?

Not that everyone doesn't go through injuries or that it mattered to the voters, but what BLM did minus a starting left tackle, minus a starting right guard, then a starting left guard, then minus a back up starting right guard, then minus an All American Center for three games with a 4th string 240 lb TE filling in at center makes his numbers even more impressive. He also had pretty much zero running game to keep defenses honest so every team knew exactly what was coming.

None the less, Bo Levi Mitchell was absolutely on fire this season and there's not a defense in the division (and judging by the UW game, several in the Pac 12) that wouldn't have had a ton of trouble stopping him.
sure, no problem

Bo Levi Mitchell lead him team to a 6-5 record

nothing else needs to be said

You mean LED? That Princeton and Stanford education is really paying off!

Chris Lum threw 15 picks despite big leads in most of his games.

Nothing else needs to be said.

See how easy that is? :coffee:

It's ok

Lehigh's Will Rackley didn't get an invite last year either

and he is the only rookie starter in the NFL this year from the FCS

Edwards is an excellent receiver but Quick is the more talented. He is going to be the first FCS player drafted for a reason. At 6-5, 220 lbs. with his leaping ability, he is a match-up nightmare.

That being said, the award is not for the most talented but for the most productive. Edwards had great numbers this year but he was also in a very pass-happy offense. If ASU had 170 more pass attempts this season to equal EWU's total, the numbers would definitely be comparable.

Honestly, it is probably a moot point because neither player had a realistic shot to actually win it but Quick got recognition because he played on a better team, the SoCon was stronger than the Big Sky this year and the EWU offense was already represented on the watch list.

Actually, he is now the second. It was due to an injury, but Appalachian State's D.J. Smith will now be starting at MLB for the Packers as a rookie!

He is a great kid, very happy for him :thumb:

Edwards has a better passing QB throwing to him than Quick does.

No.

It just means you can't just go by stats. You have to watch the guys play and come to your own conclusions. Quick is a freak of nature and one of the top receiver prospects in ALL of college football. Edwards isn't.

West not in the top 3 is criminal.

The Payton award is more of a Career Achievement Award versus awarding the best player.

West is an electric RB but is penalized because he is a freshman.

But, I counter with this - with West leading the way he took one of the most miserable FCS football programs who was at rock bottom last season, winless in the CAA, 1-10 overall I believe, to winning the most top to bottom competitive conference in FCS football.

Criminal - Andy should sue.

Oh yeah? Well Edwards and was 2 inches shorter than Quick and you have to account for that. If Edwards was 6'5" he would have caught even more passes than Quick. 8-)

For the number geeks.

Receiver A:
140 Receptions, 1915 Yards, 25 TD's

Receiver B:
95 receptions, 1106 yards, 8 TD's

When he was the #2 receiver before Kaufmann got hurt. Which is another reason that Quick is better - Edwards clearly benefited from Kaufmann not being there for half the season. :D

Hey, the BSC is far more pass happy than the SoCon so it must have better db's. Can I use that excuse as to why Edwards is better?

I guess his 96 yds and a TD against UM wasn't all that impressive by your standards. I've seen him play and he is impressive. Honest question...Does the Sports Network have anything to do with names added to the list?

Ryan Steed vs. Trumaine Johnson.

Ready..... GO!

Keep in mind. It is EWU/Big Sky fans that are making the excuses.

My guy is nominated and received votes. Y'all are making excuses as to why yours didn't get a single one.

Absolutely, that is the only reason Armanti won two of them. That kid was GARBAGE!

Did Aaron Mellette from Elon get any votes? That kid is a monster.
