No excuses needed. Just stating the obvious that anyone would rather face a southland team over a CAA team. As long as we play like we are capable I don't see us having a problem with JMU or EKU. Cue smart ass prick response in 3...2..1.AZGrizFan wrote:TheHerd wrote:Griz recieved a nice draw and will easily advance to the next round. I wish we were playing C. Sure, we beat you with our backup QB. I also remember 1995 - Montana 70; SFA 14. Dave Dickenson was back for that one.JohnStOnge wrote:You know, it is really, really too bad that McNeese dropped that close one up there in 1994 At least then it wouldn't be an 0'fer. And that one was oh SO close to going the Southland team's way.
Of course most of you guys probably aren't old enough to remember it.

Yes. It was a long time ago but if I remember correctly he started the game but had to leave it after being sacked by Kavika Pittman. Can't remember how far along it was. But I didn't think there was any noticeable difference in Montana's offensive effectiveness for that one game after he left. In fact my recollection is that I thought him getting knocked out would slow down Montana's offense and it didn't happen.Sure, we beat you with our backup QB. Doesn't matter anyway from my perspective. It was still very frustrating to have the lead and the ball at around the Montana 10 with about two minutes left and Montana out of timeouts but still lose. And it was frustrating to see the Montana receiver apparently try to lateral but get hit before he could so that he put the ball on the ground then have it take a perfect bounce to another Montana guy who ran it down into field goal range.
I hate it when miracle finishes go the wrong way.

Dickenson was badly dinged in the Boise St. game earlier. His absence was most evident in the semifinal at Youngstown St. The backup QB was pitiful and doubly exposed because UM had the best OL in all of 1-AA, so the guy had all day, but could not hit the broad side of a barn. I was at that game. 32 F downpour; hard to forget when you don't have a pauncho...JohnStOnge wrote:Yes. Those were the days when our defense didn't exist. I still remember one game where we scored the winning points with 23 seconds left on the clock, and I was worried that there was too much time left for the other team to come back and score.

BTW, one thing I will say for Central Arkansas is that they took what turned out to be the WAC champion, Louisiana Tech, to overtime this year. In fact I think they really let that one get away. They were leading 42-35 and had Louisiana Tech in a 2nd and 18 at their own 31 with 1:31 left but gave up a 49 yard pass on the next play. Tech scored with 58 seconds left to send it into overtime.
