Beware the Muslim Turkey
At least according to the looney right...
You may think that when you buy a Butterball turkey this Thanksgiving you’re as American as apple pie. But, you’d be wrong. In fact, you’re the victim of a “stealth halal” conspiracy.
In a column on The American Thinker, anti-Islam blogger Pamela Geller explains that halal meats are already prevalent throughout most of the meat industry, but now they have even infiltrated the popular frozen turkey producer Butterball.
A citizen activist and reader of my website AtlasShrugs.com wrote to Butterball, one of the most popular producers of Thanksgiving turkeys in the United States, asking them if their turkeys were halal. Wendy Howze, a Butterball Consumer Response Representative, responded: “Our whole turkeys are certified halal.”“In a little-known strike against freedom, yet again, we are being forced into consuming meat slaughtered by means of a torturous method: Islamic slaughter,” Geller writes.
She continues that if you like freedom and hate sharia, you should boycott Butterball and ask them to stop selling these nefarious birds:

Meh. Most PETA people I've met are definately leaning way over to the left.

But the one who wrote this BS doesn't. PETA loons are against killing animals, period, regardless of how it's done.andy7171 wrote:Meh. Most PETA people I've met are definately leaning way over to the left.

This is not a PETA person - they don't care the turkey was killed, just that it was done according to halal, making it ok for Muslims to eat. The bird is also Kosher, meaning it was done in accordance to Jewish dietary law (which isn't that different than Muslim dietary law).

Re: Beware the Muslim Turkey
I read this yesterday and LAUGHED so hard.
1. If I could afford it, all my meat products would be halal or kosher - for the simple reason that you know you are getting cleanly processed food. and on the rare occasion i eat hot dogs - make sure to go halal or kosher.
2. what is truly hilarious/sad about all of this - is the absurdity of the Islamophobia in among some in this country. God forbid Muslims join in celebrating a SECULAR AMERICAN holiday by doing what other Americans do... eat turkey and hang out with their family... who knows? they might even *gasp* watch football! It amuses me that a faction of Christianists have decided that even this holiday now "belongs" to their religion - when the first celebrants were a mixture of Christian fundamentalists and pagan Natives...
3. The hysteria is rooted in a level of ignorance that is beyond the pale... it's the same ignorance that was hurled at Jews and Catholics over the centuries... and it's just as disgusting... be afraid of that which you clearly don't understand... smh
4. I like that Butterball has opted to do that oh-so-American thing... respond to the market... but more than likely, they've been halal/kosher since forever - since it's GOOD FOR BUSINESS.

Re: Beware the Muslim Turkey
FWIW, my family celebrates Thanksgiving every year by having our annual family reunion and having a turkey feast. Wish I could be with 'em but my professors decided to make two projects and a 25 page essay due on Monday, and I know I won't get anything done with family members everywhere...too many distracting explosions and celebratory gunfire.
edit: btw, the whole story is ridiculous, and just another rant to justify this invented self-perpetuating fear about the "Islamization of America," something that is absolutely no threat to this country considering the tiny Muslim population in the US, most of which are highly educated and middle-class. The US isn't Europe where Muslims there are mostly poor and uneducated which creates a perfect breeding ground for radicalism (kinda like gangs here).

Thanks. It's very lonely here, plus it's my birthday which makes it even more depressing. I tried buying myself a slice of cake but all the stores were closed, so I got an Oreo McFlurry.grizzaholic wrote:Hope you ACE your stuff Trip. Best wishes for Turkey Day from Montana area.
