Actually I think Nick Saban respected the Eagles before the game with Alabama but I don't think GSU did anything to diminish it. His post game quote at the Alabama site is, ""In my opinion that was a good win for us. That's a good little team we played out there today. When I say little team, I don't mean literally. Those guys played hard and played with a lot of toughness. I think it was really important that our offense did a fantastic job of controlling the ball. They were always able to answer the bell and do a really a good job of not allowing them to have the ball. The time of possession was really good for us."
I watched the Nick Saban show and he was on that theme again. He lauded his offense for keeping the ball away from the Georgia Southern offense. Now think about that. That is probably the best college football defense in the land this year and the coach thinks it was important that his offense keep the ball away from Georgia southern's offense.
The guy hosting the show was apparently impressed as well, He opened by saying, "Congratulations, coach, on getting a win over a good college football team." Saban answered, "They ARE a good team...." and went on to add that it's difficult to prepare for them.
Another Saban statement I liked on the show was, "I know that probably our fans don't have the proper respect for that team but they're 9-1 for a reason because what they do they do extremely well."
Job well done Eagles. I know you wanted to win and some would say there are no moral victories. But I think there are moral victories and I think that was one of them. The previous high in terms of total yards surrendered by the Alabama defense was 251. They held 6 of their first 10 opponents to under 200 total yards. Your boys put up 341 including 302 yards rushing at 7.7 yards per carry. Even on the rushes other than the 82 yard TD they averaged 5.8 yards per carry.
People can say Alabama was flat and other stuff like that all they want and maybe they weren't exactly sky high. But one still can't legitimately take anything away from how impressive an effort that was by the GSU offense.

Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?
