But if you're a surgeon who works 110 hours a week and is always on call you're not a "working man."

You get out of life what you put into it, generally speaking. You wanna make a half mil a year, then you better not be a fuck up. Granted there are exceptions (always are), but the average successful person is thus due to his own merits. Do I deserve the wage I make. Fucking straight I do. I've been working on my career since I was about twelve. Way I figure it, twelve to thirteen of those were free labor. I'm getting paid back on my investment. It may pain me to say it, but Jon is spot on in that post. If you end up in a dead end job not making much money and can't find your way out of it, you are right where you deserve to be. TRUTH.

Well if you want to go all global on me and shit. sorry, I was restricting myself to domestic territory. I'm a protectionist at heart. Not a big fan of globalization. Caring about some kid in Sri Lanka is above my pay grade. I'm just narrow minded like that.

I will say that this obsession and brain drain that pulls the best and brightest of our kids to play in the financial instead of science and technology is a terrible trend. Not sure there is much that can legitimately be done about that unfortunately. Brains will follow the money.
