Can they or can they not send a team to the FCS playoffs?
I understand they play their own Championship game & I know it can't eb Southern or Grambling b/c of the Bayou Classic.
But when you look at Alabama St, & Alabama A&M (omit Jackson St because of APR) whichever team doesn't finish 1st could still be 9-2.
Does the SWAC sit out the FCS or can in fact one of their teams be selected?

Re: SWAC Question
Only a technicality that they can. The NCAA will not take a third place team from a conference that won't send it's first or second place team.

Re: SWAC Question
What I'm asking is - are they eligible to be selected? The Ivy League is not, what about the SWAC?

Yes. They technically can be selected.bluehenbillk wrote:What I'm asking is - are they eligible to be selected? The Ivy League is not, what about the SWAC?
Conferences must conduct regular-season, round-robin play among the members to determine the champion. The Division I football committee may grant exceptions to the round-robin requirement subject to approval of the NCAA Executive Committee.

Re: SWAC Question
technically the second place team in either division with the best record could be eligible. (Excluding Southern, Grambling, Alabama St, or this season Jackson St) The only team remotely close this year is Alabama A&M but if they win out they would win the division.

Re: SWAC Question
JSU would be the obvious choice (ASU holds tiebreaker/ranked highly in the national polls), but those darn APR issues.tampajag wrote:technically the second place team in either division with the best record could be eligible. Re: SWAC Question
JSU has always been our playoff team, that's why they hold the bulk of our 0-19 record. Take a look at the standings the West is horrible this season.DSUrocks07 wrote:JSU would be the obvious choice (ASU holds tiebreaker/ranked highly in the national polls), but those darn APR issues.tampajag wrote:technically the second place team in either division with the best record could be eligible. Re: SWAC Question
I thought that the SWAC gave up its automatic playoff birth back in the yr of 2k?Although it would be nice if that technicality would allow them to play but seeing as how JSU who is currently academically deficient the point is moot they can't play anyway inspite of the fact that they have moved up the 1-aa charts to #14 with a 7-1 mark.As stated before it would be great for QB Casey Therriault to use the playoffs as a introduction into the NFL.tampajag wrote:technically the second place team in either division with the best record could be eligible.
