All large cats will be extinct in 20 years
Re: All large cats will be extinct in 20 years
Nowhere in the photo essay does it say they "will be extinct," nor does it mention 20 years or any timeline.

Man, this is just a link to a photo of a lion. I thought there was some new information here.

If I had to bet I'd bet there will still be lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, and cougars in the wild 20 years from now. cheetahs, maybe not. Don't know about some others. My guess is some of the various species that can be bred in captivity will persist in captivity for some time.
Reminds me of something I once saw on tigers in India (I think). When they had a problem with a tiger killing and eating people, they wouldn't kill the tiger. Instead, they'd set up dummies wired to give shocks. They'd set the dummies up by the water hoping the tiger would attack and get shocked and get condition-response training not to kill and eat people.
To me that's going to far. Just kill the thing. When it comes between killing a tiger and letting it continue to eat people, kill it. And if they go extinct they go extinct. They're going to go extinct at some point anyway. They'd go extinct at some point even if Homo sapiens had never come onto the scene. Same with every other species.
This thing where we think it's the end of the world if another species goes extinct just doesn't make any sense. Like when you have something like the Endangered Species Act you're automatically setting yourself up for failure. We shouldn't be making preventing extinction just for the sake of preventing extinction an objective.

How many different species of plants and animals live on the planet? Which ones would you like to see go first?JohnStOnge wrote:If I had to bet I'd bet there will still be lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, and cougars in the wild 20 years from now. cheetahs, maybe not. That's some messed up logic right there. So we are allowed to kill every species on the planet just because they will eventually go extinct? Humans have a moral duty to PROTECT nature, not destroy it.To me that's going to far. Just kill the thing. When it comes between killing a tiger and letting it continue to eat people, kill it. And if they go extinct they go extinct. They're going to go extinct at some point anyway. They'd go extinct at some point even if Homo sapiens had never come onto the scene. I say let them keep eating people. There are 7,000,000,000 of us anyway. We have a few to spare.JohnStOnge wrote:If I had to bet I'd bet there will still be lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, and cougars in the wild 20 years from now. cheetahs, maybe not.
