"Luna" could of been the core of our space program. A relay point for travel to Mars and elsewhere. We could have a generation of Lunar babies by now. And we would get a shit ton more research out of just that alone than the entire ISS project.

I'm just saying that priority-wise, we would be 40 years closer to accomplishing that instead of having it put on the back burner in favor for an ISS program which possibly has maybe 15 years left in its life cycle before it goes the way of Skylab.

My thing is people are focused more about population control as the answer compared to other potential options. The old saying about there's only so many pieces of the pie to go around, rationing seems to be the obvious option...but if you INCREASE the size of the pie...

Well, if we did colonize the Moon and/or Mars, most of the resources used there would have to be shipped up from earth. As far as a mass migration to another planet after we destroy this one...the nearest earth-like planet has to be at least thousands, if not millions of light years away. Which means, even if we could devise a way of traveling at close to light speed, it would take far longer than a human life-span just to get there. Better to focus on slowing population growth and sustainable existence.
