New JMU logo?

JMU has done a lot of growing up in the last couple of years with its athletics. We all know about the football team with the national title and the new stadium and all the FBS rumors. But the baseball team making a playoff run, the basketball team above 500, a soccer team that is currently nationally ranked and the women's basketball team winning the CAA, JMU is certainly starting to make a few national ripples. And with the current scheduling of WVU in football in D.C. next year, it got me thinking....is it time for JMU to consider a new athletic logo? The duke dog with the crown and cape sitting atop the "JMU" letters has served us well, but it might be time for a newer, fresher, maybe even more "grown up" look. I thought the idea of encorperating the purple duke dog paw print (as seen on the road outside the stadium) was one that had merit.

Any thoughts fellow JMU (or non JMU) fans?

I prefer to call you clowns "Madison" rather than "JMU". A new logo should have "Madison" in it.

Absolutely not! The Duke Dog logo is a classic and should never be done away with. I it ain't broke don't fix it ... and it sure as hell aint broke!

I agree, I don't think it needs to be changed unless if it was a logo that looked like something out of a looney tune cartoon show (ie Georgia State) or a logo from a grocery store chain (ie ODU).

Perhaps you could hire a design firm and pay them hundreds of thousands of dollars to come up with something highly innovative, like this:



I mean, it's really a quantum leap over this:



Money well spent I tell ya! I mean, the brilliance that ran through the brain of the fellow who said, "why just have a 'D' when you you can have a 'U' with that 'D'" and "hell, why don't we interlock that 'U' and that 'D'?"

That guy was clearly smarter than any of us peons sitting here.

Yep. Interlocking letters....truly unique. I'm surprised no one has done that before.

JMU should definitely go more corporate so the rest of the country takes you more seriously. Corporate logos are definitely the way to go!
