Weird the title of this forum is "Smack and Rumors"...if this is a football board than they should call it "Football Smack and Rumors". ...the mods need to fix that.bluehenbillk wrote:If your ODU education is worth anything - and from what I've heard about the academic lack of a reputation- it's probably not that much. Also FYI, ODU has some very good academic programs...engineering being one of them, sports medicine/athletic training being another.

Look. How many times do we have to say the same thing? Football is king. Some people (not me, but some people) sort of care about men's basketball. Nobody gives a shit about all the throwaway sports that ODU is good at that you keep throwing into all these "ODU has won this many championships in...".ODUalum11 wrote:Weird the title of this forum is "Smack and Rumors"...if this is a football board than they should call it "Football Smack and Rumors". ...the mods need to fix that.bluehenbillk wrote:If your ODU education is worth anything - and from what I've heard about the academic lack of a reputation- it's probably not that much. ...and when in doubt, trash another school's academics. And VCU and Mason can continue to enjoy being relevant in only men's basketball...ODU will enjoy having an athletic department that enjoys success across athletics...not just one sport. And your a Blue Hens fan, why are you talking about the ODU-VCU-GMU "trivalry" as one VCU fan calls it? When was the last time UDel was even relevant in men's basketball or even anything else other than Football for that matter? Also what will Delaware fans fall back on when their football team doesn't make the playoffs this year? So what if ODU will have a down year this year? Every program in every sport goes through it, just like the Delaware football program this year. Also if you're wondering ODU has the most CAA Championships, NCAA Tournament Appearances, NBA Players and so on between the three schools. Not really being thrown to the back of the bus if you ask me. And whats to say if ODU won't enjoy a run in the NCAA Tournament? For someone who isn't a college basketball fan do you know something that I don't know? Can you read the future?
Also FYI, ODU has some very good academic programs...engineering being one of them, sports medicine/athletic training being another.
Seriously, no one gives a fuck about the meaningless sports that ODU has been good at, like women's sailing, field hockey, soccer, and frisbee golf. And if you want to get into an academics discussion, UD > ODU and it's not even close. Bottom line is we're a top 75 national university (and trending up) and you're a tier 2 school.
THIS IS AN FCS FOOTBALL BOARD. (and we beat you in our only meeting, in a very down year for our program)

Nobody cares about Basketball? Tell that to VCU fans, Mason fans, even Drexel who are the ones picked to win the CAA this year. Tell that to Towson who are building a new facility as well as Georgia State. I also thought since the women's basketball team at Delaware is picked to win the CAA this year you'd take a slight interest. I know ODU fans when they see the expectations are high for an athletics program they support that program 110%. Now I know that might sound a little bit like being a bandwagon fan. Again nobody cares about basketball? Tell that to UNC fans, to Duke fans, Kentucky fans, UConn fans and so on. If nobody cares about basketball then why is the Final Four one of the most popular sporting events behind the Super Bowl? Why was the state of virginia going absolutely crazy when VCU made the final four? Why is march called march madness? Why do numerous schools have so-called "midnight madness" to open the start of pre-season practice? Also why is the CAA primarily a basketball conference? Only 6 of the "true CAA members" have football...I'm in no way degrading ODU or CAA football since I'm a HUGE fan of both but facts are facts. Also why does the Pac-10 have their postseason tournament in the Staples Center in LA if nobody cares about thier basketball conference? Why does the Big East have theirs in Madison Square Garden? Why does the SEC have theirs at the Georgia Dome most of the time? Why does the Big 10 have theirs in the same arena where the Pacers play?BlueHen86 wrote:93henfan wrote:

Also, I'd like to see you go to the other student-athletes at Delaware who aren't on the football team and say nobody cares about them, tell their parents and the people who do support them. I have a feeling they'd really appreciate it. It's about being a fan of course, but secondly its about having school pride thats what I'm trying to show in my signature. The point I'm trying to make is that ODU, across the board, has a very impressive athletics program. Also I'm not questioning you're school pride because anybody who posts here must have a little bit of it, that's just my opinion. I wear my ODU gear with pride and I know you must do as well with Delaware.
Also, I'm gonna try to leave academics out of it because thats a whole other argument. I'll admit that Delaware is a great academic institution but thats not to say ODU isn't either. ODU has some great programs as well. You keep on saying this is a FCS Message Board but I'll go a step further and say this is a Sports Message Board. ...I know primarily this is a FCS Football Message Board and thats one of the primary reasons I post here, to talk about FCS football, but then again why is the 2nd forum listed a "college basketball forum"?
Honest question as well, if all of a sudden, out of nowhere the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens suddenly became a CAA Basketball powerhouse are you telling me you would not support the team? You wouldn't go to basketball games to witness and enjoy the excitement of a great basketball program? If I were still at ODU I would seriously invite you to a ODU-VCU or ODU-George Mason game so you can understand why there is so much excitement. You are honestly one of the very few people I have met who truly hate the game of college basketball. What do you do during the winter (february and march) when there is no football? Also the whole "if all of a sudden Delaware (blank) sports team became a CAA powerhouse" question applies to other sports as well....

Re: Towson and UDel fans can suck on these....
To answer one of your questions, ODUAlum, I have seen many other championship-level Delaware teams beside football and none get me very excited.
Heck, the consistently nationally ranked UD men's lacrosse team has upset ACC powers in the playoffs the past several seasons and played in the Final Four at M&T Bank Stadium (Ravens) in front of tens of thousands of people just a few years ago against the most storied program of all time in Johns Hopkins and I did not attend a single game. I root for them politely from afar.
Same deal with basketball. Again, UD routinely won the conference championship and went to "March Madness" when I attended and into the late 90s under Steve Steinweidel and Mike Brey (who is now at Notre Dame). Basketball success is not foreign to UD. We didn't start sucking until the past several years. The place was frequently a packed house from 1993-2003 (roughly). Again, I politely rooted for them as a UD fan but had no real passion for the sport. I attended less than ten games during my four years at UD, all at home. I wasn't going to waste much time on a sport I don't really care about.
I am a football fan. As I said earlier, when I send in my UDAF donation, I make it clear that the donation is for football only. I do not support other sports like I do football, and I don't want my hard-earned money being thrown at those bullshit, inconsequential sports.

Re: Towson and UDel fans can suck on these....
UD has other sports obviously than football but there is no question where the enchilada is for most fans (like 93) and the media - and it's football - just because of the consistent long-term success the program has had.
UD has one the women's lax championship before, has been in the College World Series before, has been in the Final Four for men's lax & those accomplishments have been recognized. Still what gets UD fans juices flowing is football, always has & for the foreseeable future - it probably will too.
For a school that had it's biggest win in the 90's beating Villanova & Kerry Kittles & those phone-card thieves from the Main Line, I'd assume it's been pretty miserable in Norfolk the past few years (not that Norfolk would inspire any less) watching Mason & VCU dance on the floor & become media darlings. Heck that would make ODU at best the 5th most recognized college hoops team in their own state - OUCH!
But then again, this is a football board son, and you played Delaware & you lost - by double digits and since you brought up Towson in the thread title - you lost to them too - so tuck balls between your legs & walk away & try not to get hit upside the head this week with any of those gay streamers.

Honestly, what gives Delaware fans the right to talk smack in college basketball when they aren't even relevant? ...and probably never will be. Also ODU will have their turn sooner or later. Mason and VCU will just motivate the rest of the CAA...even Delaware.
Re: Towson and UDel fans can suck on these....
What do you consider relevant? Winning a mid-major basketball conference and having no realistic shot at winning a national championship?ODUalum11 wrote:Honestly, what gives Delaware fans the right to talk smack in college basketball when they aren't even relevant? ...and probably never will be. Been there. Done that. If it floats your boat, you are easily entertained I guess.
ODU seems like a prime candidate for moving the football program up to a bottom-dwelling FBS conference and celebrating winning the occasional Motor City or Eagle One Bank Bowl with no hope of ever winning a national championship. Good luck with the big move!

Relevant has being in contention for a midmajor conference championship every year, even in down years like ODU will be going through this year. Also no realistic chance to win the national championship? I believe mason and VCU came pretty close. Also who's saying that ODU will move up to the fbs? There is no definitive source saying ODU is planning on doing that any time soon.93henfan wrote:What do you consider relevant? In response to the first part of your post you said that "odu is the master of the sports that nobody cares about". Forgot exactly what your response was but that led me to believe you thought nobody cared about men's hoops. I don't know if you went back and re-edited that particular post but I completely missed the 2nd part of that post.
Anyway, whats so funny about caring about other collegiate sports? I have a tremendous amount of school pride and I'm a proud alumni and I'm a huge sports fan. I'll admit there are some sports I care more about more then others but overall I like to see all ODU Athletic programs do well. I'm proud of the fact that ODU Rowing just built a brand new rowing center and it looks like state-of-the-art. I guess overall the point is that ODU is growing by leaps and bounds both athletically and academically and therefore I think at this moment every ODU student and alumni is proud of their school.

"We" is me and 93henfan, we've both said that people care about men's hoops, reread the thread if you need to, it's right there. Also, I never said anything negative about your school, find the post where I did. I think it's funny that you care so much about other sports, but I never said anything bad about your school.
I also never insulted your intellegence, but based on the fact that you just made up a whole bunch of **** and put words in my mouth I'd be well within my rights to do so. You should try reading and comprehending the posts that you respond to. Like I said, reread the thread if you need to.
In response to the first part of your post you said that "odu is the master of the sports that nobody cares about". Forgot exactly what your response was but that led me to believe you thought nobody cared about men's hoops. I don't know if you went back and re-edited that particular post but I completely missed the 2nd part of that post.As for saying something negative about ODU, I mixed some posts up between you and 93...93 said ODU is Tier 2 school.
At first glance it looks like I blamed you for somethings that someone else said...you delaware fans are easy to mix up since all of you pretty much say the same thing over and over again.
