Honest Question, do think this Montana State team should be taken lightly by anyone in FCS?
This year's Bobcat team is a great one definitely, but, having seen the 84 team (and also going back to the 76 team), I would not say this team is as good as those. You have a good defense (not great) and your special teams play is average at best. That said, your offense is explosive and McGhee is one of the better Bobcat quarterbacks I've seen (and that is going back to 1976). However, I don't think you could have hung 50-60 on us.
In answer to your question, though, I don't think you have to worry about anyone taking you lightly. If they do, they'll find themselves behind in a hurry, definitely.

Montana 21 @ Northern Arizona 28 - NAU in a close one. This pick may raise some eyebrows, but NAU is balanced offensively and plays tough at home. If NAU can get an early lead and force Montana into a shoot-out type game, they will win.
Southern Utah 13 @ Weber State 27 - SUU could make it close, but I expect WSU to win this game at home.
Willamette 3 @ Portland State 34 - Even with the loss of McCaffrey, this won't be close.
Eastern Washington 31 @ Sacramento State 28 - The playoffs started 3 weeks ago for Eastern, and Mitchell is on fire right now. Eags keep Sac off-balance with a modest running game and win a tight one in Sacramento to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Idaho State 7 @ BYU 48 -
I know we didn't exactly light it up against ISU, but only scoring 20 points against that defense, at home, doesn't really lead me to believe their attack is all that potent.
NAU has good yardage & efficiency numbers, but their scoring numbers are just OK. They are tied for last in the league in turnover margin and have the worst redzone offense.

Southern Utah University over Northern Utah University in a close one--heck the south won the first few battles in the real civil war.
Portland State over Willamete. Bearcats don't put up 49 points this time (like they have in their last two games).
Eastern Washington over Sacramento State. Close game, could go either way.
BYU follows up its road victory over Oregon State with a home victory over Idaho State. Cougar fans will declare that their quest for the national championship is back on track.

This game wont be SUU's Gettysburgh

I had the pleasure to go to MSU during the Lulay years, back when our football team showed spark and drive. This team this year is by far the most talented team to ever come out of MSU, and one of the finest to ever play in the big sky, recruiting was very good to us last year and only losing a few seniors after this year,( only 2 on D) we look to be dominate in the big sky for at least the next few years. The talent in here, I only hope the heart is too.

Those two statements are immensely different. Someone can think this is not the most talented team ever in the Big Sky, but still not to be taken lightly. I haven't seen anyone say that the Bobcats aren't the best team in the Big Sky right now, or that they can be taken lightly.
I suspect you'd get some debate on BobcatNation whether this is the most talented team ever out of MSU, let alone posting that it's one of the best ever out of the Big Sky on this board.
There's just no way to prove your opinion. I wasn't there for the '56 or '76 teams so I don't feel qualified to offer an opinion on those. I was there for the '84 team and I'd have a hard time deciding which is more talented. Different types of talent shine in different offensive/defensive schemes, etc.
Despite all that, I generally agree with you that this is a remarkable team. The recruiting has been great in recent years; we have a chance to be among the top teams, if not dominant, in the Big Sky for the next few years or beyond and so on. I'm having a great time rooting for my Bobcats this year.
Montana State @ Northern Colorado- No 2007 here, Cats roll
Montana @ Northern Arizona- NAU can win this game, but I dont see that happening.
Southern Utah @ Weber State- Old Rivals finally meet after 5 years. Wildcats win and start a new chapter in a new age of hate. Goodbye Holy War, Hello Civil War.
Willamette @ Portland State- The Vikings roll, unfortunately It wont count towards the playoffs.
Eastern Washington @ Sacramento State- Big game for both teams, playoffs on the line, Eastern is finally playing well, but Sac is good at home.
Idaho State @ BYU- All BYU here folks
State
Jacks
Weber
Viks
Hornets
Cougars (Kramer does kick more players off the team next Monday though)
The Big Sky needs Weber to beat Utah South so the Big Sky can improve its conference ranking over the Great West. It's a joke that sagrian has the GW over the BSC. Doesn't pass the smell test.

The Big Sky has only played 4 FCS non-conference games, and all of those were against Great West teams. It's unfortunately difficult to gauge how good the Big Sky is relative to other leagues with the current model of scheduling.

Having a bit of an oddity in that there are six games on the Big Sky docket this late in October. What it means is there are six chances to improve on my current mark of 33-6 and being perfect for the month. Some good games and a couple that may be easy to predict. Here are my predictions for the week of 10-22...
EWU at Sac State---An interesting matchup to say the least. Two teams with high expectations coming into the year, yet the circumstances are that the loser of this game will be all but out of most playoff scenarios. The winner, however, will keep their dream season alive. The Eagles have been dodging bullets since their disastrous start and the Hornets have been fairly inconsistent, yet this will only be their second game at home...Sac State 21, EWU 10.
ISU at Brigham Young---Clearly what is emerging with the Bengals is that, instead of a year of making noise (the team, that is), this is a year of adjusting to the new regime. The Bengals will be good someday, but probably not this year. This week, another return to the FBS on the road at Brigham Young. They did not fair too well last week in Utah, and probably won't do much better here...Brigham Young 48, ISU 7.
UM at NAU---Always an interesting take whenever teams come to play the Lumberjacks is the altitude at which the game is played. Combined with the enclosed space and teams used to playing at altitude and with noise can have problems. The Grizzlies have been fairly inconsistent on the road, losing big at Sacramento State but getting a big win at Idaho State. What will it be here?...NAU 28, UM 26.
MSU at UNC---The Bobcats are coasting as the team in the conference. The Bears have been relegated to the worst team. These things are about the only sure teams within the conference currently. Is it worth the Bobcats looking past the Bears, especially closing out the year with both Weber State and Montana. Even if they are looking past the Bears, it shouldn't make a difference...MSU 30, UNC 20.
Willamette at PSU---In a stretch of four tough conference games, the Vikings were able to schedule a DIII to play at home, albeit a pretty darn good DIII team. It may be a good workout to see who can replace McCaffrey for the rest of the year. Willamette is good, and they own the overall series over the Vikings, but the Vikings starters should not be in the game much past halftime, unless they are still trying people out...PSU 49, Willamette 20.
Southern Utah at WSU---A preview of years to come in the Big Sky as the Wildcats finally have an instate "rival" to play. Whether it replaces the long standing rivalry with Idaho State remains to be seen, but Southern Utah is good, having already beaten Sacramento State and also has a big win over UNLV. They would enjoy a road win at the expense of WSU. However, it won't happen...WSU 34, Southern Utah 17.
Another opportunity to keep my perfect October going.

Oh please AZ your so full of it…you guys travel well but you make it sound like you have one whole side to yourselves. Earlier you estimated you might have 1,500-2,000 fans even our lowest attended game (5,000) is more then that. Ask MSU how loud 12,000 sounded in there last year…we don’t get that often but it is homecoming this saturday.

These predictions have been money. Jalmond called it...an NAU win it is.
The 1,000-1,500 or so Griz fans will be loud. But not as loud and game-changings as they think.

Montana @ Northern Arizona- Griz have NAU's number but I bet this one is really close and the Griz squeak one out.
Southern Utah @Weber State- I think SUU will come out and play better than they have in conference play, they can play well at times......
Willamette @ Portland State- Vikes better roll and get some good practice in.
Eastern Washington @ Sacramento State- Eags have their backs against the wall and keep fighting.
Idaho State @ BYU- Glad I can't go to this one, should be over with about 14:59 to play in the first quarter.
Mike HOW COULD YOU
By the way you coming up to the Weber/SUU game? or are you traveling down to Flagstaff?
I am probably wrong on this one, but SUU is capable, they just don't always show it. Picking an upset I guess. I am stuck in Boise for a while and won't be traveling anywhere to watch football. Work is work and I can't complain about that.

suu is in the same boat as ewu now. its a must win for them more than it is for us. we cant exactly afford to lose this one either. after seeing what ewu's qb did to us seeing anyone pick suu to beat us does not surprise me.

My biggest worry...is whether or not Weber decides to play a full game and also, if the Co-DCs actually put together a game plan where they focus on limiting the affects of the SUU QB. Give him time, he will destroy us, put pressure on him, hurry him, and put him on his back; Weber will win this game by a bunch.

BINGO, we saw what happened to a QB who had zero time to throw the ball, Yost was getting hit all night, Of course SUU and ISU are on a differnt level, but the objective is still the same, PRESSURE THE QB, and give yourselves a chance to win.
