Most other Big Sky fans believe ISU will be good real soon.

As an NAU fan I am outraged at the fact that Coach Souers got an extension AND a raise! He may not be on the hot seat right now, but I sure wish he were. Ever since I started going to school here it has been 6-5, 5-6, 6-5. This year is starting to look a lot like 3-8, but who knows how the rest of the year will turn out. The players don't like playing for him and the avid student fans want him out of Flagstaff.

Easy for a Griz fan to say! haha we may not be stinking up the dome, but 5-6/6-5 for 3 straight seasons freakin sucks man! I haven't missed a home game and I've traveled on the road to 3 Big Sky games and I am tired of the losing. The talent is there, but there is never any execution. That has to fall on Souers. He always says after the game that we played real "tough" and with "a lot of courage". I'm sick of that! Courage and toughness doesn't get you wins and I want to win!BearIt wrote:With NAU's having OK seasons (not total stinkers) and an APR rating that is through the roof. Reminds me of Mick Durham, bball coach at MSU, he was happily mediocre and it took forever for us to get rid of him. Now guess what we have? More mediocrity!

haha alright even worse. I have been a student since '08 and so I can't really extend my NAU knowledge past then, so it is good to know that Griz fans are reminding me of our incredible stretch of mediocrity.....Mvemjsunpx wrote:It's actually 5 straight seasons.JacksFan2011 wrote:

Souers has never beaten the griz. This dude has had one good season since he has been here. He should have been gone after last seasons collapse. Way too many good players to finish like that.

He's had 3 playoff seasons, though one had 4 wins retroactively forfeited due to an ineligible player.lumberjerk wrote:Souers has never beaten the griz. And he did get his team to beat a #1 seed by 32 points on the road. Granted, that was 8 years ago, but still…
Re: Big Sky Coaches On Hot Seat
The football team's APR is up, his players graduate and (generally) stay out of trouble and he's signed for a few more years. Souers isn't going anywhere soon. I can't see NAU buying his contract out and paying additional money for a new coach. That just doesn't seem to be how the athletic department operates at NAU since I've been a Lumberjacks fan.

I'm only aware of one playoff season, but maybe i'm wrong. He got a pay raise and a 2 year contract extension after blowing it last season. And i'm sure it is because we dont want to spend the money to get a new coach, but everybody still wonders why we get a high school crowd when we are hosting the defending national champs.Mvemjsunpx wrote:He's had 3 playoff seasons, though one had 4 wins retroactively forfeited due to an ineligible player.lumberjerk wrote:Souers has never beaten the griz. I'm pretty impressed with the recent student section/support/JackPack. I've never been impressed with the community's support for football. A better crowd than usual will be present due to homecoming. I'm bringing five family members or in-laws and three or four old college friends who never attended football when they were NAU students ...which is the root of the fan support problem up there...people I went to school with didn't actively hate NAU or sports in general but it just was not a priority.lumberjerk wrote: I'm only aware of one playoff season, but maybe i'm wrong. 1999, 2001, 2003. '99 was the one with the forfeits.lumberjerk wrote:I'm only aware of one playoff season, but maybe i'm wrong. I really appreciate your point of view, as academics and player conduct off the field are extremely important but if that’s all he’s good at then he needs to take a position in the ath dept as someone in charge of academics/player conduct and leave the x’s and o’s to someone else.
He is a football coach and a losing one at that (the records speak for themselves)…Portland St. got some new blood in and they greatly improved….to be completely honest we need to get rid of the AD too. We need entirely new blood in the ath dept. we need people in there that get upset when we lose. The “we played with heart and im proud of a hard fought loss” BS nonsense is getting old… the heck with that im demanding better and NAU deserves it. Its time we pound our fists on the table and demand better because we deserve it...Souers has got to go! WE NEED A CULTURE CHANGE!!!

Gerome is 74-79 in his 14th year at NAU. He was a popular DC at Montana, but he has yet to beat his former employer in 13 tries. 14th Saturday at home. The patience there with that output is surprising.JacksFan2011 wrote:As an NAU fan I am outraged at the fact that Coach Souers got an extension AND a raise! Ya this would not pass at most schools. Last season would have been the perfect time for a new coach. We made major renovations on the dome and we should have made renovations to the coaching staff. Souers has worn out his welcome

Exactly.
With the access to Phoenix and SoCal recruiting, NAU should be in the BSC title hunt every year, and in the playoffs most.

Re: Big Sky Coaches On Hot Seat
The talent is absolutely there. I am sick of hearing "well our guys never gave up, they played tough." Last year is a prime example of Jerome. We lose two incredibly close games to EWU and UM and pummel MSU, then going into an important homecoming against Sac. State we get blown out and then blow the rest of the season. There was too much talent on both sides of the ball for that to happen.dbackjon wrote:JacksFan2011 wrote:
