JMU's DJ Bryant - Class Guy Award, haha

Post by bluehenbillk »

Check out the video recap of the Maine-JMU game. At about the 2:55 mark after Maine wins, watch Bryant (#13) start throwing punches at any BlackBear within arms length.

JMU fans - This was the same guy who cheap-shot Pat Devlin last year, argue that if you want. But - how can this be defended??

Who are the captains on this team? Hopefully he's not one of them.

I'm sure we CAA folks can raise a bit of funds so that you can take the time to write to Yeager with a request to review this video....complete with an official lawyerly looking recommendation for sentencing.

Since he threw punches at several players, perhaps a stiffer sentence is warranted.

I noticed that there was an official right there. Don't know if anything will come of this, but it didn't go unnoticed. If the CAA doesn't step in, the JMU coaches should.

Not trying to defend his actions, but I know D.J. is a great guy and he just got caught up in the moment. I was sitting right there in the endzone and could hear the Maine guys ... basically just talking sh*t right as it happened. You see the guy gets in his face, then the second guy. Immediately afterwards DJ sat down in the endzone and just sat there for a while. The ref that broke that up actually came over to talk to him for about 30 seconds and proceeded to pat him on the back and say something before walking off to the locker room. The ref probably heard what was said, understood the heat of the moment, and didn't think it was worth pursuing ... and the fact that he went out of his way to approach DJ as he was there after the game makes me think he was just consolling him.

Again, not an excuse, but a further explanation of the full picture after you see the 3 seconds in the video. DJ is one of the most intense players we have, but I know he's a great guy and not a cheap player like UD fans made him out to be last year. You can hate on him all you want, but picking out two incidents (one of which was very debatable last year) is not fair to him.

Please...the guy threw punches towards two different players. Talking isht is done on every athletic field...absolutely no excuse for his behavior. This is simply a case of a player demonstrating that he can't handle himself properly.

He deserves to be suspended.

Not defending his actions, but you can see Maine's #32 jawing at him, which appears to have provoked him. Then a Maine player, seeing this, took a shot at Bryant so he swung back, then the ref broke it up.

He found himself caught in the middle of the Maine team celebration in the endzone and looked to me to be trying to get out of it ... and was getting slammed into by Maine players running into the endzone. I would have probably done the same thing in the heat of the moment. Haven't you ever been really worked up for whatever reason, someone says or does something, and all you wanna do is yell at them, no matter how much it's justified? It's easy to get carried away in the heat of the moment, especially when you have 250 lb. guys crashing into you from every angle.

Ever consider a career in politics? Didn't know JMU offered "spin" as a major.

That was one of those "OMG" plays. It was coming right at me. It was hard to judge what he was going to do, and it actually appeared as though their TE was open in the corner, so when he committed to the run I was relieved. I thought it was going to be a bang-bang, play of inches on th goal line ... and when he jumped up and got helicoptered, it seemed like he was in the air forever. I kept thinking "there is no way he holds onto the ball after that" ... I kept waiting for the ball to fly out as he was spinning. I stood there for a good 20-30 seconds with my mouth opened. What a buzz kill that was!

I'm not necessarily saying what he did was right ... just that you guys are making it out to be a lot worse than it actually is. The fact that a ref came up to him well afterwards as he was sitting on the field and appeared to give him a little pep talk and a pat on the back (the same one that pulled him away) makes me think we aren't seeing everything in that snap shot of a video.

Also, what is with the obsession with UD fans and JMU athletes being "thugs" ... or is it just a personal vandetta on DJ Bryant? The guy has a huge heart for the game and seems to be a great guy off the field. It seems like any time something happens at JMU, UD fans jump up to shout their opinions.

Delaware fans would be better off focusing on why their attendance is abismally low compared to years past and try and figure out why that's happening.

What are we making it out to be? He clearly threw two punches...that should be a suspension.

And you have no idea what the ref said...you're just inserting a one sided guess. Heck, he could have been saying, "Dude, I'm going to have to report your punches to the league...unless you service me under the stands in about half an hour. Don't shower."

As far as attendence goes, you folks had better wonder why you can't sell out your shiney new stadium on a beautiful fall day. Was there a conflict with TV repeats of "Cops"?
