Police are surrounding the protestors, the Bull is being guarded.
80 arrests so far.. Right to assembly?

Yeah, they should get a job like Madoff and steal 10 billion dollars of other people's money. That's the REAL America.

Peaceful Protest? Knowing how people protest in America...I doubt it.expandspanos wrote:Police are surrounding the protestors, the Bull is being guarded.

Yeah, like they have a pulse on the American economy. Let's see the guy driving the Rolls or the unwashed trash sleeping in a tent outside their buildings bemoaning their misfortune? Easy, show me the money! No such thing as too much $$$$!

This may shock some, but I fully support the protesters.bluehenbillk wrote:Actually, it is pretty shameful, this is like America's Tiannemen Square..
Wall Street has been given a pass via taxpayer bailout.
My issue is fundamental: High risk should equate to high gain...and vice versa.
The Wall Street (financial industry) leaders reaped obscene net for decades. The equation being they had "earned" it through aggressive, high risk, successful, management. Yet when the curtain was pulled back revealing the charade, those same "leaders" were not held accountable.
The "...all investments have risks..." argument (nullification of victimization) doesn't hold water as the underlying structures were fraudulent, and further, the oversight laws/agencies had been carefully, chicanely, designed and crafted for the violators to escape culpability.
Wall Street has "earned" a slapping around by a lengthy, loud protest.

I just hope they let Bank of America go under. Buying Countrywide Financial has to be one of the top 3 worst acquisitions ever made by a public company, and I can't name the other 2.

Time Warner buying AOL.
News Corp buying Myspace.
Neither of which ever threatened to put the acquirer under. Countrywide might just break BOA up for good.

B of A's CEO Ken Lewis tried to back out of the Countrywide deal, but was told in no uncertain terms by the government that they WOULD buy it. End of discussion....not sure about the validity of that, but if it's true it speaks more to the problems in our GOVERNMENT than in our banking system.danefan wrote:In recent memory:Ivytalk wrote:I just hope they let Bank of America go under. My understanding was it was a trade off. BOA was undercapitalized and the Richmond Fed was all over them to raise capital, which they couldn't do without giving away the store, if you will. Paulson needed someone to buy Countrywide and in exchange for that, Paulson had Bernake get the Governor of the Richmond Fed to call off the dogs.AZGrizFan wrote:B of A's CEO Ken Lewis tried to back out of the Countrywide deal, but was told in no uncertain terms by the government that they WOULD buy it. I'm sure Lewis had pressure, but he still made the deal. Probably would've been better off selling a chunk of BOA cheap to someone like Buffet to sure up capital, but you know how that hindsight works.
And yes, I agree - Paulson should not have been playing matchmaker.
